To put my four month old in front of the TV?

Not quite as bad as it sounds, but am I impeding my four month olds development by letting her sit in a bouncy chair and watch TV as her siblings watch it after a day at school? I hope not …

It would also mean I either had the older ones in a different room to me or the baby.

Why can't they all play together, why do they even need to sit in front of the TV

Can't the older ones read to baby ?

Well, the older ones tend to stand in front of the TV so if I faced her another way she’d be looking at a wall.

I should probably organise something more structured than TV in the 5-6 time slot but no one’s really up for it, including me!

This is the crux of it really. Your youngest baby is missing out on the protection afforded to your eldest who had the best of you.

Do whatever works for you. I'm sure your a great mum, baby watching the TV with siblings for abit won't hurt them. Its nobody else's baby so not their business.

I'd try and avoid if possible. Face her another way, put her on a playmat, have her in the kitchen with you while they watch TV in the other room etc.

It's obviously not going to cause any major issues, but it's not the best and it's quite easy to avoid a 4 month old watching an hour of TV every day. Different once she's mobile of course...

Let’s not be nasty @Isthisexpected

Realistically, I can’t parent more than one child in the same way I can parent one. And actually I would argue against my eldest having the best of me. The more uptight, tense, worried me, definitely.

Why can’t they read to the baby - coz they can’t read. We’re talking preschoolers here.

@Justfinking because it’s generally been a day of playing in some capacity or another and I guess they just want to zone out for a bit.

She isn’t keen on the playmat; it was Dc1s favourite thing in the world. But she does seem to like the bouncy chair when others are around. I don’t think it’s just the TV, I think she just likes the noise and interaction from the others. Plus, her playmat would be in the lounge anyway so the TV would be on.
