DH wants to buy a small gift for a friend of his and his wife. I have been tasked with the joy of this purchase. Unfortunately, I don't particularly like this friend and don't really want to encourage them to have a reason to call over to exchange gifts. Given that I sound unreasonable, I'm not really expecting anyone to agree, but some advise on what to gift...a like a generic present that doesn't look like I've given it too much thought, when I've probably spent longer dwelling on this that presents for our children.

A candle.

Shoxfordian · 06/12/2023 13:07

Bottle of wine, box of chocolates, tell him to buy it himself

fitforflight · 06/12/2023 13:07

Just say no? If your DH wants to sort a gift he can sort one.. why have you been "tasked" with it?

Aprilx · 06/12/2023 13:08

My husband doesn’t get to task me with his gift buying and definitely not choosing as well. Tell him to do it himself.

plumtreebroke · 06/12/2023 13:08

Chocolates and a bottle of wine. You can do things like that with a Christmas card online so no need to visit, if you want to be a bit offhand.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 06/12/2023 13:08

Bottle of champagne

EvilElsa · 06/12/2023 13:08

I'd "task" it back to DH who actually likes this person.

sandletown · 06/12/2023 13:13

Hand wash and hand cream set for the bathroom

pinkspeakers · 06/12/2023 13:17

Why on earth is DH not buying it? It's his friend. You don't like them.

DGPP · 06/12/2023 13:32

Wine.. but it’s for dh to sort out

Coconutter24 · 06/12/2023 13:53

Why have you been tasked with this? I would tell him if you want to buy your friend a gift then you go out and get it. If he’d of put the effort in to decide what gift to buy sent you a link to it or suggested a shop to go to as they sell this certain gift I’d maybe consider it just picking it up but to be left with the hassle of deciding what to get I’d be annoyed

cheddercherry · 06/12/2023 14:21

I’d “task” it right back at him.

Surely he knows you dislike said friend so why is your husband giving you this poison chalice?

BarbaraofSeville · 06/12/2023 14:22

YABU to be doing the thinking and buying here. Your DH wants to buy a gift for his friend, that you don't even like.

So that's for him to do surely, unless he's housebound as well as being unable to shop online.

Hessian bag of organic root vegetables that can be used for roasting and a Lions Club twin pack of mini Christmas Puddings.

user1492757084 · 06/12/2023 14:24

A framed photograph of DH wearing his Santa hat.

Sexlivesofthepotatomen · 06/12/2023 14:25

Agree with others, task it back to him

user1492757084 · 06/12/2023 14:26

A laminated photograph of your family dog wearing a red bow and holly on his collar.

MmedeGouge · 06/12/2023 14:26

Christmas floral arrangement from a supermarket and delivered by a courier.

DuploTrain · 06/12/2023 14:27

Task it back. Of course.

Brilliant!😂

WhatNoRaisins · 06/12/2023 14:27

Is your DH doing a task for you in return?

Iloveacurry · 06/12/2023 14:28

Why can’t he buy it himself?!

If not, a candle or box of chocolates.

Bordesleyhills · 06/12/2023 14:29

Something on Amazon

Gettingbysomehow · 06/12/2023 14:29

Tell him you're not doing it.
Or just get them a bottle of wine.

BoohooWoohoo · 06/12/2023 14:30

Alcohol or a scratch card
I’m baffled why you are the one who has to buy this gift.
