to think boots should keep tablets at a height out of toddler reach

whilst in boots the other day i noticed that my wee girl had a packet of panadols in her hand. We had been no where near the pharmacy section in the shop. The tablets she had picked up was randomly placed at pushchair level in the middle of the shop with other items on promotion. I appreciate mums need to keep an eye on wandering hands but still think that they should be out of reach just in case a mum or dad didnt notice them getting picked up.

I sort of agree with the OP a bit. Of course you have to watch your DC, but I have always been srprised that things like strong painkillers are on low shelves. If I had a shop I would out the medicines high up and fill up below with larger bottles and packets. The reason is, pills are very small and easily stashed away, and they are like sweets and easily eaten, could be choked on, and something like paracetamol could easily be deadly. My DS once took a toy carrot from a shop while sitting in his buggy - I didn't see it at all as he put it under the buggy snuggle and hid it. That could be a packet or paracetamol which he could then be playing with and opening. Of course you need to look out forthese things and I do, but I do also think how easy it would be for a child to get hold of painkillers in just a few seconds while you're scanning for something.

Get hold of, yes. Open the packet, no. It's not the outside of the packet that's dangerous.

"pills aren't like hair dye or whatever with child safty kids, they are very 'sweet like' and tempting for a toddler."

Inside the packet? Or do you mean that your chemist actually displays loose pills? That sounds a bit unusual. How else is a toddler going to know that there is something tempting and sweetlike inside a panadol packet?

I am sure the Op is a very responsible mum, who just got a bit worried seeing her child with a packet in her hand which she knew (though toddler didn't) contained something you could put in your mouth.

hi double
I agree with you. I understand i have to watch my kids when they are in shops but when you are herded into the queuing area bit in my local boots there are tablets at low level and you have to be really careful watching your kids.
I think it's fine to keep things low down for disabled people etc... but in the queue, why not just put out magazines etc...?

bit torn here, i do think that in boots, it is a chemist so one would expect some dangerous things at toddler level. What pisses me off big time is when this happens in the supermarket, usually slap bang next to the sweets - twats
