All these people paying for designer rip offs?

Maybe it’s just me but last week at work 3 colleagues were all sporting those Ugg slippers that they got cheap for like £30, next day one of them comes in with a pink Marc Jacob’s bag (very nice btw)

All over Facebook this week is sellers selling designer rip-offs and I really don’t get it, paying double the price of say Primark boots for a pair of Primark quality with a fake Ugg sticker because they want everyone to think they can afford the £120 ones? Or if you care about designers buy designers? And if they are so cheap everyone else if going to have them anyway which kind of negates the purpose.

disclaimer: I do own Uggs as they are amazing for my little Raynauds affected toes, no other footwear comes close to warmth. I tend to buy bags for practicality and as they look nice not because they have someone’s name on them, this designer thing has passed me by.

Designer rip offs have always been a thing. Even the Primark boots you refer too are designer rip offs.

You can always tell a knock off.

I don't buy designer rip-offs, because I'm not actually particularly fussed about designer labels and I also know (because it's a big problem in my home town) that counterfeit goods like that are often linked to modern slavery and violent organised crime.

The 'designer rip-offs' you're talking about aren't 'Primark quality', though. They might not be the quality of the originals, but they're generally much better than Primark. For instance, a lot of fake Uggs are still real sheepskin, while Primark ones aren't; they're cheap faux-suede lined with synthetic fur.

I also think it's interesting that you insist 'no other footwear comes close' to Uggs for warmth, as there are many other brands of real sheepskin boots/slippers that are every bit as warm as Uggs - eg Emu, Bearpaw, Celtic & Co, and many other brands produce boots using exactly the same materials and manufacturing processes as Ugg. I'm wearing a pair from Jack Wills as we speak (which were £35 down from £70 in their sale - result!) and they feel just the same as Uggs - I've worn both and and they're no different at all in terms of warmth. So I think you probably are a bit more seduced by the lure of a label than you think!

Well they're paying for what they're getting: probably not quality but the experience of looking like they have a designer piece and despite what MN says, it's not always immediately obvious from a quick glance.

And you totally get it, of course, because it's not hard to get. They want to look like they have something enviable without paying the full, true price of it. If you want to bash them for it, go ahead, but stop with the faux confusion. We've had quite enough of that on the Christmas Eve box thread.
