To ask how much you pay for childcare if you are NOT using your full entitlement of funded hours?

So if you’re entitled to 30 but only use 25, or entitled to 15 but only use 12.

I don't understand the question. If you have 30 hours available and are only using 25, IE not using 5, why would you be paying anything? The hours you're using are covered by your entitlement. What extra is there to pay? 🤔

About £18 a week. He goes one morning (8-1) and one short day (8-3.30)

Money is for "consumables" like craft supplies, his lunch/food and a one off £5 fee for a dance session from an outside provider.

@PippyLongTits The 30 hours are only over term time, so most working parents will pay something. Plus you normally pay for meals too.

Yes, I understand that the 30hrs is term time, but that isn't the question. OP is asking how much it costs to not use your hours.

To answer your question "If you have 30 hours available and are only using 25, IE not using 5, why would you be paying anything? " - you would pay for the lunches etc, and the non term time hours (which are spread across the whole year). So you would not be using all your hours, and still paying something.

So our funded hours are stretched over 48 weeks but even then we’re only using just over 70% of what we’re entitled to. However we’ve still had to pay quite a hefty sum for childcare this year.

Anyone else?

Maybe it might help if you list the things you're being billed for.

Every nursery would charge for different things

My dd does 2 days a week but the funded hours are capped at 7 hours allowed per day. So even though she is only there for 16 hours per week we still pay about £27 per day. We usually pay just over £200 per month which if she was full time would be about £550-£600? At our nursery all meals/nappies/wipes are included in price.

still a lot better than is it without the funding!!

Rjahdhdvd · 05/12/2023 09:18

My DS nursery only use funded hours from 9-3pm but as we need 4 days 8-6 we only use 24 hours and have to pay wrap around plus holidays so it averages about £200 per month. Considering I used to pay £700 though before funded hours I’m quite happy with that

Sprogonthetyne · 05/12/2023 09:36

Our old nursery had 3 hour funded sessions either 9-12 or 12-3, so you could cover 9-3 with free hours, but if you needed 8.30-5.30, you would pay for the hours before and after. This was the case even if they were only in 1 or 2 days a week, so using less them their hours entitlement.
