To think I could lose some decent weight in a month ..

If I gave up my 5 bottles of wine per week habit, most processed foods and ate high protein meals?
I'm menopausal and hrt has given me a balloon belly. I'm in the process of tweaking.
I'm fourteen stone, hourglass and tallish.

I have started to walk four evenings a re week. Just 30 mins fast.
What could I hope to shift do you think?
I have a glam NYE party, I'd like to look well for and am determined.
Thank you.

Planking every evening is good. You could start with 30 secs and build up from there.

Thanks. My core is non existent. Is this the best exercise to start with for the huge tummy area?

I'd say you could lose a fairly decent amount of weight in a month. Especially if you cut out alcohol.

I'd concentrate on exercising and finding something you like to eat but that is healthy/not too many calories. If you're eating stuff you don't like, you'll be miserable.

Do be aware that exercise makes you very hungry. A banana afterwards is great.

Oh and drink lots of water. It'll keep you feeling full.

I wouldn't weigh yourself either. Find a pair of jeans and try those on at the same time every day. That's a better indication of getting slimmer, imo.

I don't know, sorry. Giving up dairy is another good one.

A lot of exercise will strengthen your core. Even lifting weights with your arms will strengthen your core overall. Imagine picking up something heavy - your middle is getting involved.

Btw you are onto a winner with the walking, well done.

I need an overhaul anyway. These winter evenings are long! Yes to water. I love all foods so plan on enjoying new dishes . Veggie meals once or twice per week will help too I'd imagine.
Could I lose ten lbs possibly?

A realistic weight loss is in the region of 0.5-1% of body weight a week (so between 1 and 2lbs for your weight).
5 bottles of wine a week amounts to about 3500 calories so that's an lb of weight loss per week right there, give or take. Just make sure you don't overcompensate by eating more. Smaller portions, high density foods (fresh greens, fruits and veggies + a good lean source of protein)

I would have thought so. Wine is so calorific by itself so I'd say it's very likely you'd have lost weight by the end of the month just quitting that alone.

You don't need to do a huge amount of exercise to make a difference either. Twenty minutes of high intensity a day (with rest days) will be great.

Loads of water will give you a massive boost.

I'm quite envious of all the extra energy you'll have!

Mulhollandmagoo · 04/12/2023 12:48

I think cutting out the wine will reduce the bloat in your stomach maybe? and yes to brisk walking!

Work out your calorie deficit amount on an online calculator (I used James Smith) and then just stick to a calorie deficit, high protein foods, plenty of water and your walking!

goingslightlyinsane · 04/12/2023 12:52

I cut out alcohol and bread for a month, I was drinking a similar amount, I lost 11 pounds in that month. A lot of it was a wine belly and it shrunk massively.
Well done, the walking will really help too. I didn't do any exercise.

WonderingAboutBabies · 04/12/2023 13:24

Shifting the wine will make a huge difference.

Walking is fantastic, keep that up. Increase length or difficulty over time (e.g. uphill, faster pace).

Reduce white carbs on a plate, add fresh veggies.

Have protein in your breakfast - keeps you fuller for longer (e.g. eggs, yogurts, protein powder etc).

Losing a lb a week is very feasible, give it 10 weeks and you'll be a stone down easily.

I was about the same weight as you when I started a health overhaul earlier this year and I lost 10lbs in the first month. Sadly I would never be able to lose that much so quickly again as the first month is always the fastest but you could definitely lose a decent amount if you're dedicated.
