I’ve been searching for a dress for Christmas Day, but it feels impossible when you are petite height wise but have boobs and a belly, I can’t find anything even slightly flattering… help a gal out with ideas please!

I'm sorry, I know its not what you want to hear but the reason clothes aren't flattering when you are overweight is because you are overweight. That's all there is to it. I used to be fat and now am an 8 to 10 and my greatest joy is trying on clothes knowing things will just fit. I know its not a popular opinion but it's just because people don't say what they really think. People don't really love their curves, everyone knows you are treated by others, and feel yourself, totally different when fat to when thin.

Oh get knotted! You’ve no idea what she weighs, and even if she is overweight you saying this isn’t going to miraculously make her lose her weight in time for Christmas, so is irrelevant when she needs a dress for 3 weeks time!!! People who used to be fat giving advice like this is the most annoying. Hope you never put it back on 😡

Congratulations on your weight loss.

If you work as hard at losing the attitude, nastiest and patronisating tone, it would probably serve you better.

I have bought this FatFace Victoria Dress which is flattering and comes in petite and regular length. The band under the bust is elasticated and it drapes flattering over the body without making one look pregnant.

That's lovely. I love the back slight cutout too.

I think it's a matter of finding what dress suits your shape and buying that over and over in different guises. I very much suit an empire line, no high necks, above the knee or very long. Below the knee is OK but I feel odd in that length.

I have a really nice belt to cinch me in under the bust - apparently draws the eye to the thinnest point. So they say. At the minute I'm 14-16 5ft 6, 36gg. I can't just put any dress on any look good despite being curvy. I have a tummy but it's all about learning to dress for your shape.

I buy the same brand of dress in different patterns, in a size that accommodates my natural weight fluctuations (medical, completely outside my control). I buy hellbunny /collectif mostly . Not really mn style but I'm OK with that.

I was out last night after over a week in bed with this crap virus, and was fussing trying to fix my hair in the loos. This lady told me how lovely I looked, my dress, shoes. Hair. I must have just reeked lack of self
confidence. So that was really nice of her.

Don't give up op. You will find your dress. It just takes time.

I think start with which bit of your body you like and accentuate that (if you can). I always to disguise my stomach but I'm ok with my legs so I like skater dresses over skinny jeans with heels.

Start with the bits you like and ignore the poster who mistook this thread as an opportunity to offer sanctimonious advice about losing weight 🙄

Wrap dresses are extremely flattering and hold you in around your boob area while covering your belly. I have found, I swear the most flattering dresses I have ever worn from Popsy clothing (wrap style) they have pockets and sleeves too. Honestly the most flattering dresses I own 😃

Not entirely true.

I have been a size 4 a size 6 and a size 8. I have struggled to find clothes that fit at all sizes.

I am 5ft2 and find that petite trousers are too short in the leg and the regular trousers too long.

I struggle to find shoes because I was short between the ankle bone and the soles so shoes rub.

I struggled to find size 4 and 6 clothes that accommodated by 28DD-F boobs.

I am short between the shoulder and the nipple which means that a lot of clothes are baggy in the shoulders

I have a small waist and was and now close to an hour glass. A lot of clothes have the smallest bit as under the bust as this is the cut women without a defined waists are told to look for. Instead even in a size 4 I had unflattering excess fabric around the waist

I have hated shopping my entire life and clothes are not designed for a person that is 5ft2 and an hour glass shape. Thankfully I am from a family of seamstresses so we can adjust clothes for one another to make them fit in a flattering way. It doesn't matter what size you are size 6, 16 or 26 the right cut clothing will look beautiful and the wrong cut will make you look and feel like a sack of spuds. Knowing the right fabric and what you need to do to shape fabric around your body is so crucial for feeling good about yourself

Not sure I agree with this at all - I'm a healthy BMI and pretty slim overall but since my 3 C-section babies I have a belly/overhang that will never shift. Pair that with quite a small chest and no waist, it's completely changed the shape of my body and will never (in my mind) look nice. Lots and lots of clothes (in a magical size 10, no less) just don't look flattering on me.

My friend is about 5ft10, big boobs, very very tiny waist and runs marathons etc for fun. Her hips are naturally really wide despite not having an ounce of fat anywhere on her body, actually it is probably accentuated by this. She struggles to find flattering clothes to fit her shape.

Agree with this. Your body shape plays much more of a part than your dress size, in my opinion. I've seen some dresses look amazing on larger ladies that look appalling on me!

I'm 5'8 and hourglass so I can't help the OP but assuming it's just weight based is naive at best.

@Girlattheback thanks for the link! That sort of neck doesn't suit me but is has given me the idea to look more closely at asos

If you've got the budget the Hill House Home UK nap dresses are amazing. If you have tiktok or YouTube you can see lots of petite, curvy girls showing the fit and it's flattering as hell, stupidly comfy, the bust is fully stretchy but so are the straps, which means it perfectly fits your boobs, and your torso height. The length on Ellie and Elizabeth work for basically any height as the bust and strap ruching shortens or lengthens based on your proportions. I'm 4'11, 32FF and 17 weeks pregnant with a big ol bump and all of their nap dresses still look amazing on me (and I'm somehow still fitting into the XS comfortably because they really, really stretch). The only downside is they're expensive, and you'll end up wanting all of them because they're the dress MVP.
