DH started a new job last month. He is travelling to Germany tomorrow to meet his team. They are all based out of Berlin. What can he take from here (UK) for the team?
Jaffa cakes?

The UK biscuit culture is very UK-ish; I've brought boxes of biscuits to family in Scandinavia and they think that's a treat. I've lived in Germany too and as far as I remember it's not such a thing there either, so maybe a box of different biscuits?

Quality street is also not very common outside the UK. Anything where people can choose and there's a chance everyone will like something is a good bet I'd say.

Shortbread- particularly in the nice tins available now

theduchessofspork · 03/12/2023 21:46

I was going to say shortbread - posh in tins or your duchy of Cornwall type ginger / lemon / dark chocolate biscuits

I think Jaffa cakes are too industrialised to be exciting unless it’s nostalgia

Quality Street are truly rank

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 03/12/2023 21:47

Mince pies?

lotuspocus · 03/12/2023 21:51

Walker's shortbread can be found in a lot of German supermarkets anyway, but mince pies could be good.

BertieBotts · 03/12/2023 21:56

You get Jaffa cake clones in every supermarket here (in Germany) so they won't be novel.

The big tubs of chocolate like Quality Street and Roses will probably go down well. Not Heroes as they have those here.

Biscuit selection box perhaps. Yes, shortbread is nice.

Mince Pies are absolutely not known here and would probably be interesting. Actually any of the Mr. Kipling etc small fruit pies are lovely and you don't tend to get them in Germany. I don't know if they would travel well, though.

You could go for some traditional sweets like humbugs or rhubarb and custard, toffees, fudge.

ilovespinach · 03/12/2023 21:57

Mince pies could be good. German supermarkets have their own 'Soft Cakes' aka Jaffa Cakes.

Ask him to bring back some Lebkuchen or Stollen.

BertieBotts · 03/12/2023 22:02

Sorry it's Celebrations they sell in Germany, not Miniature Heroes.

I am just looking on British Corner Shop and Tesco online Grin

Twiglets are bizarre and they won't have had them before.

Chocolate Orange they are obsessed with.

StonwEd · 03/12/2023 22:03

I visit English friends in Germany a few times a year. They don’t allow me in their homes unless I bring crumpets.

Sarasara1983 · 03/12/2023 22:03

Whisky?

BertieBotts · 03/12/2023 22:03

Crumpets are no good without a toaster though! Assuming there will be no toaster in an office (people tend to set off fire alarms with them so they are a nuisance).

I’ve just been on a similar trip. I’m afraid I didn’t think to take anything with me, but there were some very heavy ‘hints’ from more than one person that tea was expected next time. I’m not sure why, because the kitchen already seemed to have every type of tea under the sun but suffice to say I don’t think I would dare return without taking some boxes.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 03/12/2023 22:08

A German colleague was partial to Walkers salt and vinegar crisps.

User5512 · 03/12/2023 22:10

Thanks! Keep the ideas coming!

DH packed his bags to the last inch, no space to carry stuff. So, it must be something he can buy at the airport after security.

Kew Gardens website and The English Soap Company are quite good for browsing for gifts such as jam or soap. I've found things specific to my town on Etsy before for gifts to take to France

CatMandarin · 03/12/2023 22:47

Liberty have got nice biscuits

CatMandarin · 03/12/2023 22:49

There's always some extortionate shortbread being sold after security.

Nice Liberty tin

Tea, beans, whisky, gin, shortbread.

You can buy jaffa cakes in DE; not sure people would consider them to be 'British'.

Edited

Black tea in Germany is very weak.
