To use GARDEN fleece for curtains?

So, bear with me if I sound crazy, but this stuff is designed to stop frost and insulate plants and it's nicer to look at than foil underlay screens (another option I'm looking into), so would it work to help keep the house warmer? Desperate to try anything without my home looking like I am crazy!
I can't seem to find anything online about it 😕 thinking of extendable rods and a net curtain style set up.
What do you think?

Isn't t flammable and would probably emit toxic fumes when burnt?

I used to use IKEA nets as garden fleece so why not?

Porridgeislife · 03/12/2023 16:41

Interlined curtains have a layer of wadding fleece between the backing and curtain fabric which is basically identical to garden fleece so no I don’t think you’re mad. Synthetic fleece is fleece.

As someone else pointed out, it burns readily, so would not really make a good option for your planned use. Unless you wanted the room to get very hot very quickly for a short period of time... 🚒

It's the sort of thing I've done in the past. I should think the garden fleece varies in quality and thickness, so it depends.

The alternative would be to get some actual fleece fabric that's designed for the purpose. You can get synthetic sarille in various weights which is basically similar but made for the job - it's used for making curtain interlinings. I've used it in the past to make a sort of internal room curtain to retain heat in certain parts of the house.

Its effectiveness will depend on how much heat you're losing to the windows versus other places (ceiling, floor and walls).

I use cheap fleece throws from IKEA.

I used pin curtain hooks for pencil pleat curtains to attach the throw . If you Google curtain hooks there are all sorts you could use.

All really good points! Thank you for the reminder about fire risks, hadn't crossed my mind 🙁
I'll look into that option Cranford Jones.

I've lined all our curtains with IKEA fleeces, but we have this weird big window in utility that needs covering but look nice too
