Impatient DH

When we are out queueing with the kids, DH lets them pester him to take them off somewhere quickly nearby to buy sweets or look at something else until it's our turn for the ride/activity/shopping etc then we often end up missing half of what we are waiting for. He feels he has to keep then entertained. I'm not talking about waiting ages.

I'm the baddy for saying we need to wait. They are not toddlers. They are 9.

He is generally a restless person which is fine but we are away for the weekend soon and this does my head in. I don't mind them moaning as they are old enough now and need to learn.

This is why two parents are needed. So kids get a balance of different approaches

What are they missing in a queue?

cloverclover65 · 03/12/2023 10:06

It’s more about teaching them to wait I suppose. I just see other families with younger kids waiting. It’s ok to be bored.

At 9 they should be able to que 10 minutes or longer he's taught them that messing about is rewarded.

Can you talk to him about it? And why instant gratification isn’t always great / waiting is a life skill, and then suggest you do a bit of both on this weekend

Well yeah, but the OP is saying they aren’t right now, they are being whisked off at the first sign of disquiet

Reading the post it sounds like she enforces her approach at times. Thus the balance

cloverclover65 · 03/12/2023 11:41

Suggesting a bit of both is the way to go I think.
