To take baby to hospital after falling off bed

My baby (8 months old) just fell off the bed. She cried for about 2 minutes but is now playing again. She seems OK and is back to her happy self. The floor is carpeted but it isn't a thick carpet and the fall was probably from 50-60cm so quite high. I saw her fall but couldn't get to her in time - she sort of rolled off so she hit the side of her head.

AIBU to want to take her to hospital?

YANBU. Best to be safe not sorry.

Headband · 01/12/2023 17:38

Personally, I wouldn't but if it puts your mind at rest then maybe call 111 and ask their advice.

DisquietintheRanks · 01/12/2023 17:57

Do you have any reason to believe she's injured?

I agree with this. I wouldn't. But call out of hours NHS for advice if you are unsure before considering A&E.

CornishGem1975 · 01/12/2023 18:01

I wouldn't but I would keep a close eye for the next few hours.

mynameiscalypso · 01/12/2023 18:02

I wouldn't either so long as they were fine in themselves. If they were a newborn maybe but they're a bit sturdier by 8 months.

Mrsjayy · 01/12/2023 18:03

I'd not go but phone you said she seems fine so it's not urgent.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/12/2023 18:06

Every other baby in A&E will have RSV. So if she's fine I'd just keep an eye on her.

ThePineapplePrincess · 01/12/2023 18:08

YANBU. I absolutely would take her.

UsingChangeofName · 01/12/2023 18:08

I wouldn't.
Babies fall off beds. Just keep an eye on them for the next few hours and call 111 if there is anything that seems different, but they are more likely to be fine.

MoroccoMole · 01/12/2023 18:10

Does she have a bump? Bleeding? Crying? Seem sleepy?
If not I wouldn't bother

moijejoue · 01/12/2023 18:15

It happened about 40mins before her nap time so she's asleep now. But I don't think it's drowsiness from the fall.

There's no cuts or bleeding.. but she did bump her head.

The trouble is that if you phone 111 about this they will automatically tell you to go to A & E.

So you might as well just go.
Personally, I wouldn't. The baby has cried and is fine now.

Discomboobulated · 01/12/2023 18:17

They won't do anything. Just keep an eye out at home

Iateallllllthepies · 01/12/2023 18:19

111 will always tell you to take a baby to A&E.

Two of my babies rolled off beds, just as I was right next to them and just missed them, it does make you feel like shit.

No vomit, no drowsy ness, stopped crying, no cuts or bud bumps - just keep an eye.

Thesearmsofmine · 01/12/2023 18:20

At that age onto carpet from a not very high fall and with her seeming fine I wouldn’t bother. If you have any particular concerns about injury then of course go.

moijejoue · 01/12/2023 18:26

Ok thank you everyone. She seems ok so far 🙌

My dd did this at 8mo too. I turned my back for a second to close the blinds and she'd fell off. To this day I've no idea how she got from the middle of the bed to the edge so quickly.

Anyway I panicked and rang the drs, Dr checked her over and asked why I was worried. I said my 8mo fell off a bed, she gave me a pretend telling off and then said it happens to everyone, said if she's got no symptoms or injuries then just keep an eye. She was thankfully completely fine. Not saying don't seek medical attention if you think she needs it but the gp was more amused at my panic while presenting a seemingly happy, healthy baby!

Icepop79 · 01/12/2023 18:55

Most people discover their baby can roll over for the first time when they find them on the floor, having left them on the bed!

You’re doing the right thing by keeping an eye on her for the next few hours.

Lala161 · 01/12/2023 18:58

I called 111 on a weekend when my baby fell off the bed. They booked me an appt at the hospital just to be sure he was ok, they felt his head, his whole body, just told me what signs to look out for. If they sleep after the fall to wake them up every hour for the first 6 hours, watch out for vomiting and drowsiness etc. Then keep an eye for the next day or so. I'd always say to just get checked. You can never be too safe x

Ostryga · 01/12/2023 19:09

Dd also did this at 8 months! For some unknown reason I left her on the bed to have a wee in the en-suite (door open so I could see her) as I sat down I thought god this is a stupid idea, and then watched as Dd launched herself off the side. Why the fuck did I do that, I still beat myself up over it 7 years later!

She was fine, as it sounds like your Dd is too. Just keep an eye on her, but doesn’t seem like anything I would worry about.

troppibambini6 · 01/12/2023 19:23

No I would not take them and just keep an eye on them.
