To be annoyed with a friend?

I've recently booked a short sunshine break with a friend, we've known each other 60 years.
During a lunch with other friends from the group she said" I hope you are going to have a drink on holiday, you can't drink the water" She knows I don't like alcohol and don't drink it. She then threw in "well you'll have some Sangria?" (Me Er no! ) Wine? (No) etc! What is it with people's obsession with alcohol? She can have a drink, she has before when we've been away, I don't say" I hope you are not having a drink on holiday!" Each to there own! Leave me to eat and drink what I like 😘🤣

This drives me crackers too! I don't drink, never have, ever. Never been drunk, just never acquired the taste. Not a problem for me, don't mind if people drink around me, all my family drink - just not me. I get, 'Oh I bet you haven't tried X,' or 'You should try a Y cocktail it doesn't taste of alcohol' - well it does to me! If you said you didn't like fizzy drinks or chocolate people wouldn't be trying to ram them down your throat would they? I feel you OP!

I totally understand your frustration. I know a few people like this and it’s really annoying feeling like you have to justify why you are not drinking.
I find it’s usually the people who can’t have any fun without drinking who highlight it. They want you to drink to justify their constant need to drink - your ability to abstain from drink highlights the fact that they feel the need to drink and can’t do without it.

I've had this for years. I choose not to drink. I don't enjoy it, I don't miss it. Never had a problem with alcohol. I had a friend group (long gone now) who would nag me constantly to drink. Every meal, every night out they'd bang on about it, about me being boring. If I say to people that I don't drink they always assume I was an alcoholic and that's why. Is it so impossible to believe that some people just don't enjoy alcohol?!
