Crossing the road

Why do pedestrians almost always walk in front of the first car in the queue that is about to or already in the process of edging to turn into a main road?

I get that pedestrians have right of way, but god almighty when I am waiting to join [or sometimes even actually in the process of pulling out into] a main road of slow moving traffic; it pisses me off no end when some pillock walks in front of me to cross the road with no urgency and the kind driver who had let me in front of them gives up.

In my mind it is good courtesy and common sense to cross the behind the first car waiting to turn out so they can turn as soon as the opportunity arises, and you the pedestrian are at less risk if a less aware driver is looking at the next road or other drivers more than the pavement.

YANBU.
Add people who cross diagonally, so less quickly meaning I have to slow down, to the list of annoyances.

Can’t you wait for a moment whilst you are sitting in the comfort of your car, nice & warm, with a personal entertainment system?
And crossing diagonally is a lot quicker for pedestrians!

It’s even better courtesy for a driver to wait for someone to cross the road. Not everyone can walk that easily. Also if the road is as busy as someone having to let you out in traffic it’s very hard for a pedestrian to get across the road too, didn’t that occur to you?

It depends... they may not be able to see and be seen so well on the other half of the road if they're behind your car.

YANBU but you will probably get a lot of stick from people who think the motorist is always wrong.

I am actually a pedestrian much more frequently than I am a motorist. But because I do drive I think I see it from both sides. It has to be said that some pedestrians behave in a very dozy way.

Fair enough to make allowance and look out for children, older people and disabled people. But so often you see able bodied adults who seem to be totally unaware of what is happening around them.

I used to walk to work every day and, at the places I had to cross a road, I either crossed at light controlled junctions or basically used my eyes and ears, made eye contact with drivers, just paid attention to the surrounding traffic. Then you see someone in a world of their own with their headphones in just walking out in to the road!

On one occasion I saw a pedestrian almost unseat a cyclist by walking straight in front of him on a busy road. Another time there was an ambulance with blue light on, all the traffic stopping to move to the side, but a young woman paying no attention just walked straight in front!

Walking without due care and attention!!!

The pedestrian is not crossing that road.

YANBU. My default crossing position is just behind the first car trying to pull out. As that lets two sets of people progress.
