Please help! My head is infected!

posted on here already back when it started but I’ve NC since and can’t find it now!

I had surgery roughly 6-7 weeks ago now on my head. It healed really well apart from the end where the stitch was sticking out (it’s the dissolving stitches) and it just never quite healed. It’s been red, sore, crusty and weeping pus for the last 4 weeks or so. I’ve had various antibiotics but nothings helped. The surgeon gave me antibiotics and I’ve also been to my GP and tried different antibiotics but nothing has taken this infection away. It hurts to lie on that side of my head and when I touch it pus squeezes out like a spot. It’s red and crusty.

i honestly don’t know what to do now. None of the antibiotics have helped and the rest of it has healed completely fine alert from this. Tonight when I was bathing the area a large crust came off and took the last stitch with it- the rest of it has healed and stitches are dissolved apart from this end bit of which has now come out, does this mean the infection will be more likely to heal now? Or could it get worse?

just so tired of it all, I really thought it would be healed by now

You do not necessarily need Manuka honey, any raw and unprocessed honey will do. We normally mix the honey with antibacterial oinctment half/half. It has saved my family and our animals many times from nasty wounds and ensured that it healed without scarring tissue. Even for my dog, whose flesh was turning black on her leg.and whose bones were almost visible at a few points of the leg, we managed to heal the leg with this combination completely back to normal.

You need medical grade honey only not stuff off the supermarket shelves.

I used to love using leeches, maggots and a myriad of natural remedies on wounds when I worked in HC.

This guy uses medical grade honey on his wound. I watch these things for entertainment because once you’ve worked in wounds it’s just what you do!

Just watched this it is good

I think you have had some good advice here so I am just going to summarise the best bits.

It is likely to heal better now that crusty bit and stitch has come away.

Get medical advice ask about some of the ideas here (i) prescribed manuka honey dressings (ii) surgical spirits to clean (more suitable than hand sanitiser but is also alcohol based. (iii) trying antibiotics again ...fucidin might work now. Fucidin with a Steroid is called "Fucidin H"
But I would also listen carefully to the medical advice. Any advice from a medical practitioner will always be better than an internet forum. Not just because of their training but also as they have access to_ your whole medical history!

Lastly if it hasn't been swabbed would consider asking for it to be swabbed and cultured to see if can identify an antibiotic it would be sensitive too.

Unless you feel very unwell this is probably better and more quickly managed in General practice.

@IAmcuriousyellow that's not correct. It has to be medical grade honey and it has to be under the direction of a health care professional.

Don't just slap on honey on the say so of some posters. Get proper advice

IAmcuriousyellow · 01/12/2023 15:04

Even Gales honey in the squeezy bottle has osmotic and antibacterial action. I used manuka on my mothers leg ulcer (I’ve got photographs of each of the 30 days it took to resolve) and when my sister had a failed abdominal surgical wound the NHS used Activon medical grade honey along with an alginate fleece and that resolved within 20 or so days. It’s not widely used anymore but perhaps antibiotic resistance will change that.

MycoBug · 01/12/2023 15:12

It could be fungal, maybe that why antibiotics not working

needs swabbing really

Filamumof9 · 05/12/2023 09:01

With raw honey, I mean honey straight from the hive, no supermarket honey. Husband is a beekeeper, and raw honey is abundance for us.

Whatnowfgs · 05/12/2023 20:06

@colincaterpiller1 How are you now?

I can’t really see from the photo.. If your skull was cracked in an injury or in the surgery then don’t stop pestering doctors until it’s sorted and don’t be afraid to go to a&e. Hoping all the people saying put honey on it know something I don’t from previous threads and that it’s superficial/skin only! Even then i’d get it sorted by professionals.
