Mirena coil

Hi there
Not sure what group to share this on?
I am just home after having the second bunch of polyps removed in 3 years.
The gynaecologist has recommended to have the mirena coil fitted as it will help to keep the polyps at bay.
I am looking at other peoples experiences with this coil, preferably after the menopause, I am nearly 60.
Thanks

It was perfect for me. I had a fibroid that caused massive bleeding. The coil stopped that and I was back to normal. No side-effects at all.

I had one fitted after a hysteroscopy to investigate a slightly thickened endometrium at gynaecologists forceful advice. Very painful to be fitted, and the strings went missing after a few days, along with a stabbing pain in my uterus. I think the Mirena was embedding in my endometrium, but when I returned to gynae they refused to scan me to check its position. I insisted that they remove it, which they eventually did after a bit of digging around. In addition to this it affected my mood quite badly. Some people get on well with the Mirena, but I would never consider getting one again.

Mirena has been great for me. I'm on my 2nd and will go again. Love the lack of bleeding, (but still aware of ovulation), no negative side effects.

I had one fitted 4 weeks ago, and I've been bleeding every day. Period type bleeding, not spotting. If it doesn't stop very very soon (I'm nearly 60) I'm having it removed. I also feel very low, and have cried every day from a couple of days after fitting. I was perfectly happy beforehand, and absolutely LOVED utrogestan. It doesn't suit every woman, and I strenuously resisted one throughout my late 30s and 40s, quite rightly, it seems.

I'm giving it a month, then it's gone (I had it done privately, so they'll do it if I pay).

I had one put in post menopause as part of my HRT, but didn't get on with it at all. It caused me to get very anxious, tearful, panicky and I felt very out of control. The mood change came on within a few days and was pronounced. I had it removed quickly and my moods were back to normal in less than a week. Also I found it extremely painful being fitted. I wouldn't have one again, but some other people love them, so I suppose it's just what suits you.
