Nursery & HF&M

My little boy has been off since last Tuesday this will be his 10th day off nursery. They won't allow him back till all his spots have gone, the Dr has told me it could take another few weeks to heal as he has some scaring & that he doesn't need to be off if he's well the nursery don't seem to care about what the dr said. I'm getting very frustrated with it all but I also know they want to minimise infection as much as possible but am i wrong to question there policy's if NHS guidelines say differently ?

At our nursery all of the scabs don't even need to be healed over before they're allowed back because they aren't contagious after 5 days or so I think, we just need to keep them off until they feel better in themselves.

I'd definitely challenge it, there's no need for children to be off for weeks with it.

Actually they can be contagious for weeks after the spots have scabbed which is why the nhs says they can go in as soon as they are well.

I'd definitely be challenging that. Out nursery have a much more sensible policy in that they follow the NHS advice of only keep them off if they are actually unwell with it.

Hf&m is very contagious keeping him off isn't going to stop it spreading even the NHS acknowledged that.

The logic of waiting for the spots to disappear is madness and I suspect just a way to make money whilst not having to look after the child.

Oh fair enough, I assumed because the NHS guidance said it wouldn't stop it spreading if you kept them off it meant it wasn't contagious any more. I stand corrected 👍🏻

I'd still be asking the nursery to follow the NHS guidance through.

Have you actually seen this policy in writing? I’d be asking to see their illness policy in writing as your right it does go completely against NHS guidelines

I agree with this. I would be asking to see the policy in writing, as I bet it doesn't exist. There's absolutely no reason for you to keep him off for 10 days, let alone until the spots disappear. The nursery are in the wrong.

As mentioned, nursery’s should really have a set illness policy in writing that you should have been given/have access too. I’d ask for a copy, sadly if it’s written in the policy then that’s what you agreed to when you enrolled. If it isn’t, then I’d challenge the decision based off of NHS guidelines. If they don’t have an illness policy, I’d suggest that they write one.
