So went to a school nativity and one child (a background character) was covered in fairy lights. It was so distracting and odd

the costumes were all homemade and I'm just wondering why would parents stick lights all over their child it was so distracting and garish!

aibu to think this is weird thing to do for a kids nativity costume?

It's still November.

Swiftsmith · 28/11/2023 21:31

I don’t think it’s that weird.

What IS weird is that you were at a nativity and it’s not even December yet

Welcome to your parenting journey, The School Years.

This unfortunately involves other people, other people’s kids and quite often other people’s pushy attention-seeking or general batshittery. Tbh though, this just sounds cute 🤷‍♀️.

Try to unclench or you may terminally exceeded your outrage threshold and explode your own head by the time you get to year 4.

Kurokurosuke · 28/11/2023 21:39

Bah humbug.

flowerygloves · 28/11/2023 21:39

You're just jealous you didn't think of it for your kid

Sidebeforeself · 28/11/2023 21:49

Well that is pretty much my Xmas day outfit!

JanglingJack · 28/11/2023 22:23

Was it detracting from your child's Mary/Joseph Bafta winning performance?

Waitingfordoggo · 28/11/2023 22:26

One year when discussing the nativity, I asked my young son if he could remember what role he’d had in the nativity the previous year. ‘Yeah,’ he said, ‘I was GOD’.

(He wasn’t)

Perhaps that’s what this child was going for though.

Bit early for a nativity yet… 🤔

Isn't it.

Even fir a private school

IglesiasPiggl · 28/11/2023 22:39

For those saying it's early for nativity - my DC's primary school did this. It only had a small hall, so each year group did a separate nativity in order to be able to accommodate all the parents in the hall. To fit all 7 of the nativities in, they had to start at the end of November. It's really not unusual at all.

Hope they felt amazing in their snazzy Christmas light laden costume!

It's still November.

@Ifailed

how could we not know that when you keep posting it on threads!

MaliciaKeys · 29/11/2023 14:00

I have a tutu with fairylights, I wore it as fancydress, can't remember what I was dressed as tbh, but it was a fabulous outfit. I might dig it out and wear it for my work Christmas party.

ManateeFair · 29/11/2023 17:32

A 'background character' played by a small child had a homemade costume that you considered too garish for a nativity play? OH NO! CHRISTMAS IS RUINED!! I'd write a strongly-worded letter to the local paper about it, if I were you.

You would have hated to share a nativity with my son- one year he was the star so on the stage a lot… he is autistic and got transfixed by some lights and just started waving his arms and spinning on the spot at the side of the stage, with a slightly mad look on his face. Everyone was too busy chuckling at him to notice much else 🤷‍♀️.

They then had the bright idea to get him to reprise the role in the Christmas assembly (religious school) and the same thing happened.
