6 friends paid £10 each deposit for Xmas meal on 1st Dec 1pm.
They let one of us know today they have a funeral party in and we can eat in restaurant at 12 till 2 or eat in the bar which is a sports bar. About 4 weeks ago they did the same to me and a different friend, obviously the place for a Wake! We have decided the options are not suitable, are we being unreasonable asking for our deposits back as they are the ones not sticking to the contract.

They've offered you two suggestions. Someone has died and they are obviously the place locals go to for wakes. So let them have their wake!

Twice they have done this, sorry not good enough, they have lost our custom. Also no it is not the place where wakes are held I've lived here all my life and never been to one there.

Because they have to leave at 2pm and presumably as they had booked for 1pm that means they only have an hour. Not everyone can just move when they are free

1pm to 2pm is one hour we can't make 12.

1st December is not a Christmas meal

It is if that is the date friends can get together to celebrate Christmas with each other. Start of advent is officially party season.

1st December is not a Christmas meal

It most definitely is a Christmas meal, from the pubs Christmas menu.

Who died and made you the boss of a Christmas meals??

I had my work social club Christmas outing last Friday, proper work one is next week. Lots of other Christmas dos were happening last Friday, we certainly weren't the only ones. They fall all over the place!

They need to refund you as they are the ones who have changed the booking (I’m sure they will do). I probably wouldn’t book there again.

ThatDogIsCool · 29/11/2023 03:11

Or they thought hang on a wake..ok that gets priority over a Christmas lunch on the 1st of december

Why? They’re a pub, they’re not mourning the dead person. They shouldn’t be letting customers down a couple of days before to slot in presumably new bookings...even shock,.. a booking for a wake.
