Boring question about curtains

So I have weird shaped windows. They are pretty wide but a normal-ish length height wise. I will have to buy more than one set to cover. Not forking out for made to measure.

Can I ask if anyone here is handy enough to know how I can get these type of curtains to work. I was thinking if I tack (is that the right word?) along the pink line and then connect them there that could work? Maybe with Velcro? The loops at the top make these curtains awkward but I adore them!

ANY input would be amazing

This might help

They're panels, and you can use as many as you need to properly cover the window and still have the right fullness. I'm not sure I understand why you want to connect them. They just hang next to each other.

We did as pp said looks fine (can't tell) and no faffing!

Calgo · 28/11/2023 17:57

I’m connecting cause I thought it would look odd having two loops together, they won’t be evenly spaced without doing so. Right?

Ive never even seen a sewing machine in real life so am clueless. Blaming my age and a mum who is not crafty.

Put an old cardboard toilet roll in between the loops, it will help them hang better

You mean the two loops that meet in the middle from either side? That doesn't look odd at all. That's how it's supposed to look.

Calgo · 28/11/2023 18:03

I think having two loops side by side will have 2 loops side by side and therefore odd (as depicted in example 2). Am I being dumb?

Weird sentence. Gah. On train home. I meant to say….having two curtains together without taking off one of the loops will look odd as you’ll have 2 loops directly next to each other

You're not dumb, but that's how they are supposed to be on the rod. It doesn't look weird at all as long as you have enough material to properly cover the windows. You don't want them stretched. You want there to be a nice drape.

Aquamarine1029 · 28/11/2023 18:09

If you're concerned with how it will look, get curtains with grommets, not tabs. That will eliminate this issue entirely.

JamMakingWannaBe · 28/11/2023 18:10

Can't you just start the front/back "weaving" of the curtain pole the way you need it to look from the second panel?

Calgo · 28/11/2023 18:16

@Aquamarine1029 yes they are potentially not worth the headache. I’ve fallen in I’ve with the material plus they’re 50% off! May have to give up.

I really don’t want it to be obvious the curtains are not one continuous length

@JamMakingWannaBe interesting idea - I but would they not would hang weird if we did that? Ie they would look pulled down at the corners?

In reality your curtains will never have evenly spaced loops though will they? Like, are you going to actively space them every time you close them?

It feels like a lot of faff to try and customise curtains with no prior sewing knowledge or kit for something that won't really show? I've never sewn curtains but there's a lot of fabric in them, it's pretty heavy and that's a long line to sew straight for a beginner. You'd also need to cut off the excess on either side of the pink line otherwise it would be hanging funny and you'd see it through the curtains when the light hit.

Honestly I'd just get enough curtain to cover the area and hang them all, I don't think it would show much at all. Or, check out any local seamstress/sewist to see if its something that could be done cost effectively if it will really bother you.

JustInterested2 · 28/11/2023 18:26

I think it is the kind of thing you notice when you are focussing on doing something but after it is done you never notice again. And, as Peacocking said, if the curtains have enough fullness they will never be evenly spaced as you will not pull them taut across the window. Plus, if you are a totally inexperienced seamstress you are taking a big chance on messing up your curtains if you try to sew them.

The curtains not being one continuous length is normal for panel curtains. You buy enough panels for each half of the window depending on how full you want them to look.
