To ask how people could be admitted back to hospital In this situation

If they are on a section 3 extended leave what happens if they need to go back in? As obviously the police can’t take them to be assessed as they are already detained. Just wondering what would happen to dh if his mental health goes downhill as it’s been known to quickly and dangerously.

Responsible clinician would rescind leave I assume? And he would be returned/return voluntarily to hospital.

The inpatient consultant is saying he has nothing to do with the leave and he won’t be seeing him.

Surely leave is a part of the overall detention and can be rescinded at will?

User6888888 · 28/11/2023 09:24

The consultant isn’t seeing him so I’m not how he would cancel the leave and bring him back?

Who granted the leave if it wasn’t the consultant?

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 28/11/2023 09:28

Aren’t they doing ward rounds and monitoring him daily? This sounds like an organisational problem as the consultant/senior doctor should at least be signing off on decisions regarding leave etc.
[Side note: swiftly becoming unsure about my own place in a dual diagnosis ward]

Are you under home treatment team? If you are, then HTT will do risk assessment and arrange return to the hospital. If the patient refuses to return voluntarily, police will be called.
If he is still on section 3, there should be a discharge meeting with the consultant arranged as he can't be taken off the section without review and obviously, he cannot be living in the community under section 3 indefinitely.
If you are not under HTT, it's been assessed as low risk but there should still be a ward round date arranged for decisions about permanent discharge.
From experience, section 17 leave is typically only granted for 7 days after which there is a review and possibly discharge. If he's been out for longer than 7 days and there doesn't seem to be a ward round arranged, are you entirely sure he is still under section 3?

I agree with @catza I don't see how if it's section 7 leave it's not being reviewed etc.
Even with a community treatment order the responsible clinician stays involved don't they?
Maybe it's s117 aftercare which follows a discharge?
