To be annoyed that work didn’t acknowledge my contribution?

Moved jobs recently and took over from someone who moved to another position in the company. As a team we were working on a big project that started in early April. I joined in July and have been working on the project until late October.

Press release went out to announce the success of the project and named all the people who worked on it. Except they didn’t include my name, but they included the previous person’s name. They had a celebration dinner for it and didn’t invite me. Yet to hear if they invited the previous person.

AIBU to be annoyed that I worked hard on this project and feel completely snubbed that my contribution was ignored?

YANBU in the slightest. I would be highly miffed if that happened to me and I would let them know about it.

But how to let them know without seeming bitter!

“Hey boss, just checking I didn’t get the details for the X project celebration dinner. Is it coming up?”

I would just speak to your line manager. I would just say you want to make it clear what you contributed and list it, then say you were personally disappointed that the company hadn’t acknowledged your input in either the press release, or by way of an invite to the dinner. I would say I am sure it’s an oversight on the companies behalf but you felt it only right you pointed out to your manager your input and you are sure they will cascade it up the line and sort a personal thanks out instead

And to add (because I hit post too soon to answer the door) sorry that happened it sucks when you don’t get recognized for hard work.

Thank you! It surprised me how much it annoyed me

Absolutely agree with this

I do lots of press releases like this / deal celebration dinners and we are given a list of involved parties by the head of the deal. How long was the project running for? If it was 2 years before you joined then you’d be unlikely to be named in the PR because there are so many people likely to have been involved at a lower level. But make sure you speak to your direct boss and / or the project leader / head of the deal to get clarity. You should be invited to the dinner at least.

This is not a time to be MN flaky and just let it go, make sure you speak up and get added to the celebration dinner

It's crap, but I've had this.

Unit I used to work in delivered systems implementations and one was in the shit technically and the client was going to pull the plug.

I spent days sorting the technical balls ups and they went live.

MD of the unit sent a gushing email thanking the implementation team for pulling it "back from disaster" as she put it. Nope, I wasn't mentioned once.

I just did a reply to all with two words "you're welcome" and then left the unit as soon as I could.

FloofCloud · 28/11/2023 07:40

That's really shit! Did you have a pivotal role, is it a bit like the old boys club where you work? Would they see your role as a worker bee and the management scout the praise?
Very bad manners whatever the answer - personally I'd be looking for another job

Do you have one to ones with your manager? If so I'd bring it up then. I'd be miffed too
