To report this eBay seller?

So I recently bid on an item on eBay which generally goes for between £20-30 on the listings I’ve seen. I ended up paying £25 for the item and I was the only bidder but the seller weirdly had a ‘buy it now’ price set at £50.
Since then the money has left my account but I received an email from eBay saying that the order was cancelled and a refund was on the way. I contacted the seller and they claimed that eBay flagged up my delivery address as non-existent and they were worried I was a scam account. Seemed very odd seeing as it’s my home address linked directly to my Apple Pay and I’ve never had an issue before.
I’ve since contacted eBay and they’ve confirmed there’s nothing wrong with the delivery address so the seller has essentially lied to me.
WIBU to report them? I just get the feeling that they had no intention of selling me the item and they’ve wasted my time. Maybe they wanted more money or they sold it to someone else? Just seems weird that they made no effort to contact me at all and they accused me to having a scam account.
I did however manage to buy the item from a different seller £3 cheaper so not all bad!

So it worked out better for you in the end?

Leave them alone, seriously, life's too short to even be posting threads about this let alone reporting them.

I wouldn’t bother - this is just part and parcel of buying and selling on eBay. There could be reasons your account was flagged to her which aren’t apparent to you, and you didn’t lose anything from the transaction. She might have been being too cautious but there are scammers about and maybe she was worried about that. She clearly wasn’t scamming you since you got your full refund.

The ‘buy it now’ price is always a good bit higher than the average price for the item on EBay, since most of the time in benefits sellers to have people bid instead.

I get around 5% of my eBay purchases cancelled because I don’t live in the mainland UK (although we are still part of GB) seems that some sellers can’t be bothered completing a custom’s form. I tend to avoid eBay now due to this. Royal Mail delivery here, so there’s no problem with postage.

I had address flagged as non existent once.
I messaged them and they agreed to send it anyway.
Never had it before or after, so not sure what went wrong, but it does happen

eBay won't do anything at all , the sale was cancelled because the item didn't sell for as much as the seller wanted no doubt .

mammabing · 27/11/2023 07:58

Thank you for your replies so far. I contacted ebay as the item was a gift and I was concerned that it would happen again and I wouldn’t receive it on time. I will say they were the ones to suggest reporting it rather than me just being petty.
And whilst it will work out better for me in the long run I’m down £28 (with postage included) for the next 5 days or so whilst they process the refund. Might not seem like much but it is for me at the moment.
Had they just said they wanted higher for it I wouldn’t even consider it but it’s the fact I had to waste time trying to sort a non-existent problem which has pee’d me off a bit.

Just report it, they have agreed to sell it to you, it's not acceptable to renege on the deal.

Kpo58 · 27/11/2023 08:06

If the seller hadn't put a reserve price on their item, then I would report.

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 27/11/2023 08:09

You can report it but eBay will do fuck all.

Catza · 27/11/2023 08:54

If it breaches conditions of sale it is worth reporting. I presume it does, since ebay themselves suggested you make a report.

Elastica23 · 27/11/2023 08:57

Put it in the seller feedback.

SuspiciousSue · 27/11/2023 09:02

You’re getting your money back so, whilst annoying, you’ve lost nothing but your time. I cancelled a £3 Vinted sale the other week because they’d bought postage from Yodel and the nearest shop is a 20 mile round trip. Fuck that for £3. Could be something similar.
