Suddenly feel awful and bleeding - advice

tiredandgrumpyy · 26/11/2023 21:39

The reason I haven’t called 111 is because I have ulcerative colitis and hoping someone can give me some advice.

Have been in a recent flare but subsided and been feeling okay the past few weeks. Have been feeling quite fatigued this last week but put it down to stress due to work and moving house.

Today I was in and out of sleep until 2pm but managed to drag myself up to take our son to his SEN soft play session with my partner (partner has been with him all day).

Felt fine at soft play and came back home, put DS to bed and had a late dinner.

An hour ago I randomly started feeling really warm and sick and under my ribs feels quite tight. When I stand I feel dizzy and I’ve just been to the toilet and it was bad diarrhoea but this is on and off normal for me, but it smelt so bad that my partner could smell it all the way from upstairs even though the door was closed, like a septic tank it was bad! There was blood on the toilet paper so looked in the toilet bowl and it was covered in blood with the water a very dark red.

It almost feels like I’m starting to get flu but has come on very randomly. Because I’ve got UC I’m not jumping to A&E but if I see my GP tomorrow they will just send me there because they’re not equipped to deal with it.

It just feels too acute to suddenly be a flare and with the nausea, feeling hot and dizzy and the foul smell it seems odd. I don’t have an IBD team.

Hoping someone has some advice for me or anyone with bowel issues could advise at all? Thank you :(

Please call 111 and go and get medical treatment. This doesn’t sound within the realms of normal even with an existing diagnosis and you’d not be wasting their time.

Pumpkinpie1 · 26/11/2023 21:43

Don’t ignore it . Ring Dr

abbs1 · 26/11/2023 21:45

Oh OP I hope you're OK. I would definitely be calling 111 or getting checked out ASAP esp with that amount of blood. You'd not be wasting anyone's time.

I don't understand why you'd want "advice" from random strangers with potentially fictional credentials as opposed to calling the out of hours service or following your IBD team's protocols.

Haggisfish3 · 26/11/2023 21:45

A and e. Could be sepsis. You need to be seen.

tiredandgrumpyy · 26/11/2023 21:47

@user628468523532453 I literally explained in my post.

OP didn't ask if you understood why they were looking for advice.

OP. Please call 111. It's really not worth the risk. I totally understand why you'd not want to call them but I think this sounds like it needs to be checked out.

whocaresmore · 26/11/2023 21:52

Doesn't sound right at all. Please call 111

Stopandlook · 26/11/2023 21:55

Not ok at all, A&E please
poor you x

tortoiseshellcats · 26/11/2023 21:57

I think you should call 111 OP - could be lots of things and they might be able to get you an out of hours appointment

Aquateal · 26/11/2023 22:00

Hi,

My father recently spent 2 weeks in hospital after having symptoms very similar to what you describe.

The foul odour after going to the toilet was due to blood passing through his digestive tract. It really is something that is unmistakable once you have been exposed to it.

It ended up being a bleeding ulcer that was quite easy fixed, however, he took a few days to get to the hospital and his haemoglobin had dropped very low so he needed 4 units of blood.

The sooner you get to the hospital the better your prognosis if it ends up being something like this.

Best of luck, I really hope everything goes well.

Pjmaskmummy · 26/11/2023 22:02

I have IBD and work in A&E - please go and be seen.

if you try 111/out of hours they're going to send you to A&E anyway as they'll want you to have blood tests done to check your blood and inflammation levels.

Mischance · 26/11/2023 22:04

Please go to A&E or at the very least ring 111. Bleeding in UC is of course common but the fact that you are feeling so unwell and there is an uncharacteristic smell - get some help.

Sunday12 · 26/11/2023 22:06

I hope you’re ok op. And I hope you are at hospital now

Overthebow · 26/11/2023 22:06

Yes go to A&E now, you need to be seen.

henrysugar12 · 26/11/2023 22:08

I have ulcerative colitis. Get yourself to A&E. that doesn't sound normal even for colitis.

Ddcg12 · 26/11/2023 22:14

Please goto A&E this happened to me in July I ended up very poorly and hospitalised for 3 weeks, I have Crohns and UC, i had a really bad flare and I also had a viral and urine infection and needed iv steroids and antibiotics. I have only just been put on Humira injections and the flare has eased slightly in my experience UC flares only get worse please goto A&E GP will possibly give you steroids and do further tests but you need medical attention. Also my mum recently passed away suddenly with a perforated bowel she had never been hospitalised for anything bowel related she just said she had a stomach ache please don't ignore these symptoms.

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/11/2023 22:18

Please don't ignore this. At the very least call 111

MaryMary6589 · 26/11/2023 22:21

C.diff has a really distinctive bad smell. Definitely ring 111 and if they tell you to go to A&E then go. A family member has UC and they go straight to A&E if they know something is different after an incident of sepsis.

Beseen22 · 26/11/2023 22:50

I work in an acute medical recieving unit and I would really suggest you get seen by a doctor tonight. Sounds like could be malaena. You are feeling unwell, new dark rectal bleeding.

I would put money on GP tomorrow sending you to A&E for assessment tomorrow anyway. You are absolutely not under any circumstances wasting anyone's time. These are symptoms that I would want to triage you and get you seen fairly soon depending on your observations. May just mean an uncomfortable night waiting to be seen.

Haggisfish3 · 27/11/2023 21:30

How are you op?

@user628468523532453 do you get a kick out of being unnecessarily harsh to a frightened woman? She’s looking for empathy and reassurance, have a heart.

henrysugar12 · 29/11/2023 11:13

How are you @tiredandgrumpyy ?

ManateeFair · 29/11/2023 11:21

The fact that you also feel like you're starting to get flu, in addition to the bleeding and diarrhoea, suggests you should go to A&E. The fluish, nauseous feeling can be a sign of infection and combined with bleeding and tightness in your abdomen, that's not good, so get yourself to A&E and get looked at.
