To wonder if it is just me?

I am really feeling the cold weather. I am due to go to an event tomorrow that involves sitting outside for around an hour but don't think I can go.

Is it just me?

Are you unable to wear warm clothing?

Purplesilkpyjamas · 26/11/2023 01:21

Not enough layers to keep warm.

Hermittrismegistus · 26/11/2023 01:23

How many layers do you need?

WandaWonder · 26/11/2023 01:25

I presume the other people going are managing it, doesn't sound ideal but I would just put as many layers as I could and do it

Purplesilkpyjamas · 26/11/2023 01:27

I don't seem to be able to stay warm outside unless I am moving. Sitting outside no matter how many layers does not seem to work. There is also a limit as I don't have any coats that have enough room for more than 3 layers.

Where are you? It's mild enough here. That said, sitting for an hour will def require extra layers and a hat and scarf. Not moving about in the outdoors is v chilling.

coxesorangepippin · 26/11/2023 01:28

Will you wear a coat?

Purplesilkpyjamas · 26/11/2023 01:30

It is freezing where we are or maybe it is just me.

OP posts:
Vettrianofan · 26/11/2023 01:30

-3C here so you need a hat on your head. And scarf and gloves.

Purplesilkpyjamas · 26/11/2023 01:32

Will be wearing a coat and as many layers as I can get under coat but today I was walking with many layers so don't think I can cope with sitting outside for 60-90 minutes.

I feel it more now too. I've learnt my lesson that not all coats are created equally. I need a proper 'big coat' now with lots of padding (especially on the arms and it has to cover my bum) Don't even get me started on gilets, my arms would freeze!
Get yourself a big padded coat or you'll be miserable all winter!

NoTango · 26/11/2023 01:36

Wear a big coat

Purplesilkpyjamas · 26/11/2023 01:37

I don't have a big coat for tomorrow but wear a long North Face jacket that has a fleece.

I live pretty far north in Scotland but originally from the south of England took me a while to not be freezing especially with the wind added in!

Agree a good coat but I also wear leggings or thick tights under trousers, thick socks ontop then warm boots or walking boots.
Layer with tshirt tucked into tights then long sleeve and a fleece is warmer than a big jumper. Fleece lined hat, large scarf which can be wrapped a few times and double gloves (liner pair and ski glove). Grab yourself a hot drink it will help and shake your hands out every so often. Take a blanket for your lap if sitting.

Blankspace4 · 26/11/2023 01:50

yes - I don’t usually feel the cold particularly but today felt bitter!

as many layers as you can without being Michelin man, a good hat, scarf and gloves!

squidgybits · 26/11/2023 02:04

Hand warmers?

I'd wrap up plus take a hot water bottle. Put the hot water bottle under your coat when sat down.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 26/11/2023 02:29

If you're feeling the cold it might be worth investing just a heated coat. I got one during covid as my mum was having loads of tests at the hospital so was spending lot of time waiting in the car.

Thermal leggings are a game changer. The ones I have were about £8 from primark and are lined with what feels like a cuddly toy inside. Your legs take up a lot of your body and yet we often only wear one layer on them and only layers on the top. They make a huge difference. Also if your feet are cold, you’re cold. So warm socks too.

Cold feet are the worst! If your feet are cold, nothing else matters.

Tanaria · 26/11/2023 06:22

Tights under your trousers, two pairs of socks, upper layers should be thermal vest, long-sleeved shirt, jumper and coat. Leather gloves and a hat or hood which cover your ears.

If you're anywhere near me, it's freezing point temperatures, so definitely not mild, and it doesn't help that rain is forecast for the afternoon, so make sure you keep dry.

I work in a place that is cold. I bought a gillet that heats up. Game changer. They are fairly expensive I think mine was £140 ish. And they do need charging. But it has changed how I cope with the cold. Got mine from Amazon. U can get cheaper ones though.
