To not take son to a&e with a suspected broken toe?

Ds was at a presentation today in a lovely social club. He leant on a tabletop which wasn't attached to the legs of the table and it fell off onto his foot. It's landed near the top of his little toe and the two next to which are now pretty bruised.
He's not bothered by it much but it is sore. He can wiggle all his toes and walk on his foot. He's had calpol and is being careful with it.
I'm not sure if it warrants a trip to a&e. Our local hospital doesn't have an a&e and I don't think the walk in centre will deal with broken digits.
The nearest a&e is half an hour away in a big town. I could ring 111 but every time I have used them in the past they just tell me to use a&e.
What would you do?

Hi, sorry I'm in work so haven't been back on to update.
It was sore this morning but less bruised. He was walking on it but it was causing him a fair amount of pain and he agreed with Dh when he said he wouldn't be able to go to his friends ninja warrior party.
Dh took him to the walk in centre who x rayed it and said it wasn't broken. Then another doctor looked at it and said he thought he had fractured three bones in his foot. They sent the scans over to the local hospital to look at and mentioned him having to have a boot and something about tendons.
In the end the next doctor decided that it wasn't a fracture so just keep going with the calpol and for him to rest it.
Thanks for all the replies.

Glad he's ok and been seen. Hope it feels better soon.

I@Seascape1325 thank you. His mate brought him a party bag round earlier and apparently he was happy with that! He's gone to bed on some calpol and I've just got in now so I'll check on him later.

NHS don;t do much for it now tbh. I broke a rib, couldn't drive, lift stuff, walk, etc, they couldn't give a shit. Unless we're literally at deaths door, NHS don't want to know.

There isn’t anything you can do for a broken rib and never has been… Doctor

I broke my toe on Thursday! 4th toe left foot.

Went to the new urgent care clinic near me, they X-rayed and it’s broken clean through and was slightly displaced. They said anything with fingers and toes needs to be assessed by ortho.

So they sent me to A&E where the Dr gave me two injections either side of my toe and then straightened it out and strapped it to the next toe. I have a referral to the fracture clinic next Monday where they’ll rescan and decide if I need surgery to put a wire in.

It’s still very painful, bruised, swollen and hard to walk on nearly 5 days later.

Hope your DS is feeling better x

Our local infirmary has minor injuries and can xray there so I would take to minor injuries rather than a&e.

I had a broken metatarsal and needed a special shoe once so would get checked out, just not a&e

I broke mine yesterday and for good measure an another snap today from the bottom of the kitchen table. I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve now broken the stupid thing- but I’ve never gone to emergency for a toe. Though I’m seriously wanting it removed!! Hope it’s better soon!

Aaannnnnd I've had a letter through about me needing to speak to the fracture clinic about his treatment. So I rang them. After being passed about a bit I asked why he needed a virtual appointment as we had been told it definitely wasn't a fracture. The nurse immediately said 'I'll just get the Sister for you.'
When she came on the line she kept saying 'the good news is.....'
The long and short of it is his x ray has been reviewed by a specialist and they can't say for definite it isn't a fracture 🫣
