To have walked out?

I posted a few weeks back about a shop selling me sausages four days past their use by date. Well today I was in the shop and the owner (who is always hanging around despite a member of staff being present and the shop being quiet) had a go at the assistant for merely asking someone's age who was purchasing alcohol. He laid into her, saying that she doesnt need to ask everyone and fair play to her she challenged him back telling him that it was her job. I told him that he needs to treat his staff better and I told her she was worth more than that. He also upset another assistant in the past infront of customers when he insisted he gave her two ten pound notes for change for the till and she insisted it was only one.

Tonight I walked out without buying anything.

WIBU to stick my beak in?

Absolutely not.

he’s a bully and should be called out on it.

I want to leave a review somewhere.

Also those sausages I bought where when I didn't have a lot of money and they were bad! I also remember buying a block of cheese from there and it was furry mouldy when I opened it. Eurgh.

I think it's unreasonable that you are still shopping there 😅

Report to trading standard or police maybe
get them done for selling drink to underage people

Whiteday · 24/11/2023 21:20

Why are you shopping there and why did t you take the cheese and sausages back?

Was the person under age?

Ibizabar · 24/11/2023 21:22

Other shops are available.

MrsFawkes · 24/11/2023 21:29

You were quite right to challenge the bully shop keeper. Well done.

Meanwhile report to Trading Standards and/or Environmental Health. Look your local departments up via Google. That shop needs an inspection.

You could also put up a Google Review.
Word of mouth is another way to voice your concerns.
You really should have challenged the bad sausages and cheese etc.
Unless there is no alternative shop near you, don’t go there again! Vote with your feet.

What a weird post

Was the person under age?

Doesn't really matter. Shop assistant should be challenging anyone who appears under 25. If the owner has an issue with staff checking ID it stands to reason that he's likely selling to the underage or to those without proof of ID at least.

SisterhoodNotCisterhood · 24/11/2023 21:49

I'd be blasting them on the local FB page. I'll bet you're not the only customer who's sick of his crap.

AliasGrape · 24/11/2023 21:52

M&S?

The PP advised reporting the shop keeper to the police for serving drink to under age people. Do you not think it really matters if that actually happened first?

Is Challenge 25 a legal requirement?
All retailers are required by law to have a proof of age policy for the sale of alcohol which, as a minimum, requires individuals who appear to the person serving alcohol to be under the age of 18 years of age to produce on request (before being served alcohol) appropriate identification. Retailers that adopt Challenge 25 however, have on a voluntary basis agreed to extend this age level to 25, which the regulations allow.
However, the application of Challenge 25 is mandatory in Scotland and is placed as a condition on a significant number of licenses across the England and Wales.

You can certainly report shops that don't request ID. They're risking their license and huge fines by not doing so.
