Toddler and car

Hi I just need to vent so I took my LG to Tesco and changed her in car as she had a poured water down her trousers so when I was changing her I had a knock on my window from this elderly woman who accused me of leaving her alone and claimed she circled twice around the car. Baring in mind I still had my seat belt on and everything was in the passenger side including our changing bag and the car seat. I also haven't left my seat as I changed her on my lap and my Lo was playing with my radio so there is no way she missed a grown woman in the car and then I went into Tesco where another woman stopped me and was like aw mummy is freezing you - she had fresh trousers, a big massive coat on long tshirt underneat and socks (didn't have shoes as she threw them out of the car so I left them there)

I just feel completely mum shamed especially for the car thing and I'm slightly worried she might try and call the police as I saw her looking after my number plate and where I park there is no CCTV anywhere! I would never her unattended she's only a year old ... And not sure why this elderly woman knocked and upset me for the rest of the day.

Is it illegal to pop into Tesco to get nappies in this situation?!

Just looked it up and it's about risk and comes down to common sense.

??

She didn't leave her in the car, she says she was in the car the whole time, in her seat, wearing her seatbelt.

OP, what did you say to the woman when she knocked your window and accused you of leaving your daughter in the car?

Did you tell her you'd been there the whole time?

And hoe did she think you'd got back in the car without her seeing you?

I'd be inclined to think she was a bit odd to be honest and wouldn't think anymore of it.

HappyMavis · 24/11/2023 21:07

Sorry, what's LG?

HappyMavis · 24/11/2023 21:08

Oh, Little Girl. Sorry, I read that thinking you were referring to a flat screen TV.

Just to clarify she has never been left alone in the car! I would never!

I was taken back slightly I won't lie and I was like I have been here the whole time, she was then said I wasn't as she circled twice and I said well clearly you are lying as I just packed up about 2 mins ago. My husband mentioned something which was worried me that she might have tried to break in and try and steal her ...

She was an older woman but looked completely with it.

Yes, but she expressed concern the woman would call the police.

Forget about it.

Even if the police came round (which they wouldn't bother with!), it's your word against hers. And if there was CCTV, it would back up your version anyway!

If the lady had been genuinely concerned, she'd have gone into the store and had them make an announcement, or got security out there. But she didn't.

Frankly, people can LOOK normal, and be totally off their head. Just chalk it up as one of those occasional interactions with random odd-bods and move on.

You did nothing wrong! Definitely ignore both of these interfering people and don’t worry about it any longer. Some people have nothing better to do than try to upset others xx
