Do you still go away if you are poorly?

Been looking forward to a holiday for ages, would you still go away if you / family are poorly? Just dose up and try and enjoy it still?

cardibach · 24/11/2023 18:10

Depends poorly with what really.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 24/11/2023 18:11

Yes provided it’s not awful D&V.

QueSyrahSyrah · 24/11/2023 18:12

I wouldn't have travelled feeling as bad, but I once got struck down with the worst head cold when I'd arrived in New York. I did my best to power through and not let it ruin the trip, but there were a number of naps.

Cosyblankets · 24/11/2023 18:13

Depends on what I'd paid and whether i was likely to pick up and whether I'd get a refund. Lots of factors. Time off work. Other people affected etc

Everydayimhuffling · 24/11/2023 18:16

Depends how I'm travelling, as I'd be reluctant to fly with something communicable beyond a cold. Generally I would if at all possible.

PriOn1 · 24/11/2023 18:18

I’d go with a cold, but not with any vomiting bug.

Wish everyone else would do the same.

keye · 24/11/2023 18:20

Not usually no, but I have a condition that means the slightest thing and I need a lot of rest. 'Just a cold' can wipe me out for a week.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 24/11/2023 18:20

Depends on the illness.

I once sat near to someone on a flight who had a chesty cough and cold symptoms. They kept coughing and sneezing throughout the flight and were clearly unwell.

I'm immunosuppressed and ended up in bed for a few days with a chest infection. I'm glad I was on my return journey and not going away on holiday.

CornishGem1975 · 24/11/2023 18:22

Depends if it's fully refundable or not.

Absolutely this. Nobody want sother people's sick/runny bum germs but if I only had a cold I would go. I think anything you would go to work with is fine to go on holiday with unless of course you feel like death and can't face going away.

Mariposista · 24/11/2023 18:47

Cold - yes
cough - yes
Fever - yes
D&V - no

OhmygodDont · 24/11/2023 18:52

Depends on what I was ill with, how far we where travelling and the cost tbh

Createausername1970 · 24/11/2023 18:53

Would depend on where I was going and how bad I felt.

If I felt really rough and going in the UK, maybe I would suggest the others went on ahead as planned and I travelled a day or so later. But if it was long haul I would dose up and go, unless I could move the flight and it didn't inconvenience anyone else.

thatsgotit · 24/11/2023 19:10

This year I did the Edinburgh festival with my shoulder fractured in two places. It wasn't one of my better decisions. 😂 But I definitely understand the impulse to not sacrifice a holiday, provided I've not got anything infectious that I could spread to other people.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/11/2023 19:11

Think it depends on so many things. I wouldn’t go on a plane with d and v - or to anywhere with people or where I might not have quick loo access.

I would do most things with a cold. If something not communicable I’d do whatever I felt up to.

Just all depends!
