What about the crane driver who saved the worker from the top of the burning building today in Reading? Top work, really impressed.

Haven't seen so off to search!

zurala · 23/11/2023 23:01

Wasn't he basically just doing his job? He said someone told him to put the cage on, I don't think he's a hero. I mean, good that he was there and able to help but it's not heroic.

Poor guy trapped must have been terrified, it looked like a real inferno up there.

JSMill · 23/11/2023 23:01

He's amazing. A couple of minutes later and the story might have been completely different. I'm sure the person who was rescued is feeling very anxious tonight.

TooManyAnimals94 · 23/11/2023 23:02

Very quick thinking and lucky for the trapped man that it happened on a building site I suppose!

kweeble · 23/11/2023 23:06

He had to use skill to place the cage whilst having poor vision due to smoke and flames.
He was heroic - he kept his nerve when any delay could’ve led to the trapped man dying.

Fair comment, but I expect operating a crane in normal conditions is quite different to doing so under pressure when someone’s life is at stake. Great outcome either way.

Wow, that fire is intense!

ForeveraBluebird · 23/11/2023 23:16

He kept his composure under a lot of pressure, he saved that man’s life, sounds heroic to me.

No one is expected to man a huge crane with a fire raging next to it.

He went above and beyond for his fellow worker, and is an absolute hero.

I would love him to receive a medal for his selfless act, as he does deserve it.

Yeah I agree, I think rescuing people from raging fires with minutes to spare is right at the top of the crane operators job description. Load of fuss about nothing if you ask me - he was just doing his normal every day, no big deal!

mrsfollowill · 23/11/2023 23:39

I thought it was bloody amazing and well done that man! There was no other way out for that poor guy- he was trapped and no firefighter would have been able to help. I hope he is having a pint or two tonight.

Carsarelife · 23/11/2023 23:42

I read that as it was quite windy it was hard to keep the cage steady. At one point it was caught on a fence. The crane driver was the real hero - such perseverance and real skill

backinthebox · 23/11/2023 23:45

Wasn't he basically just doing his job? Pretty sure ‘saving people from burning buildings’ is not actually on the crane operator job description. 🙄

Hats off to the crane operator - he did an awesome job.

JSMill · 24/11/2023 08:43

The crane driver did an amazing job. The poor man he rescued must be feeling extremely traumatised.
