To have told a little white lie?

Pulled up at the shop on the way to work this morning. Into a parking space. Of which there were many. No charge.

A woman pulled up in her BMW X3 gas guzzler, parked on the yellow lines and went into the shop, leaving her engine running (which is brave of her in London).

I went in a few moments after her. Bumped into her at the bakery shelf and told her the parking warden was coming round the corner.

Never seen someone move so fast.

I strangely sort of admire people like her. Never in a million years could I do that, I’m just simply not mentally capable of being such a blatant rulebreaker. It must be very freeing to just not give a shit.

Wish I was brave enough!

I wanted to say "Sorry to bother you but I think you left your engine on by mistake". But ran with the parking warden idea.

It would have been much more direct and transparent

That game playing isn't a "little white lie". It's an untruth : a complete lie. If you have something to say, say it.

Not all heroes wear capes! Well done OP.

What was heroic about it?

That would also have been a lie as I wouldn't have been sorry to bother her and I was well aware that she knew full-well she left her engine running.

I'm pretty sure she got the message, either way.

Oh you didn't need to say sorry for bothering her.

You could simply have told her her car was illegally parked, she'd left the engine running, and asked her to move it.

Or just let it go rather than playing petty games.

Maybe missing the point but my engine can be started remotely and will stay on without the keys present if I don't switch it off...

I see your point but her keys were in the ignition.
