Therapy

Hi everyone.
I need some advice on therapy. My son (10) suffers from anxiety, also diagnosed with asd, adhd and odd. His anxieties are getting worse, and he's becoming anxious about anything and everything. It could be something as minor as the rain hitting the window. I have mentioned these anxieties to his school and that I'm concerned and was there anything they could do. I mentioned cahms, and they agreed. However, he has come home with a referral to child therapy. At the bottom of the letter, it explains the reasons for therapy, and it says that children with trauma will benefit from play therapy. My son has never experienced a traumatic event. Does this mean that they think his anxiety is linked to a possible trauma? What is play therapy for? Has anyone had play therapy for their child who also have a diagnosis of asd and adhd? Has it helped?

Has he been referred for play therapy? If not I think they're just giving you general information

Play therapy is a way of getting children talking while they're busy playing with toys, rather than a therapist sat down in front of them on chairs like an interview. I think the idea is they're more willing to open up because there's less pressure

No, I have to sign it first. A member of staff from the ALNCO has filled out all relevant information.

Oh, I see. Thank you.

“Does this mean that they think his anxiety is linked to a possible trauma?”

Why don’t you ask the school and not strangers on the internet who know nothing about it?

Such wonderful advice. I really hadn't thought of that. Tysm 🥹
