Am I at fault here?

Some weeks ago I was asked to make an in-person appointment. I offered dates. They replied saying they could do one of the dates, was it ok? I missed that email and never confirmed or put it in my diary. The appointment has just come and gone. I've been told it's my fault so I'm liable for the fee. Is it my fault?

How was it worded? If it was...we have booked you in on 21st November is this OK? I'd kind of think you had some responsibility here. But it's on them for booking it in without a confirmation response. More ok them than you depending how it was worded.

2024writeanovel · 21/11/2023 16:31

Depends if you want to have another appointment. What was if for?

Yes this was how it was worded.

The appointment was arranged by a third party for some maintenance work that is a requirement. The appointment has to be rescheduled.

The exact wording would help. There's not enough context.

CrimsonPig · 21/11/2023 18:14

What do you mean you missed the email?

CaineRaine · 21/11/2023 18:15

If they confirmed they’d booked you in on a date you’d already said you could do then it’s more your fault than theirs.

WiIIowT · 21/11/2023 18:34

I'd say more your fault, you gave them available dates and then didn't turn up

SunsetApple · 21/11/2023 18:38

They should have waited until you confirmed. That’s what ‘is this ok?’ implies.I would tell them they should have waited until you confirmed.

Mammajay · 21/11/2023 18:40

I don't think you should be paying as it wasn't confirmed

dothehokeycokey · 21/11/2023 18:42

Did they not call you to confirm after no response from the email?

And how did you miss the email?if I'm having email convos booking an appointment in I always check until
I have a response so I know somethings confirmed

Mum34686 · 21/11/2023 19:33

The email was sent a few weeks ago. I missed it, means I didn't see or read it and then I forgot about it.

OP posts:
Mum34686 · 21/11/2023 19:34

No, no one called to confirm.

OP posts:
Lochness1975 · 21/11/2023 19:35

If you were expecting a response surely you check your emails daily?

Nowherenew · 21/11/2023 19:39

What was the wording of the email?

Mum34686 · 21/11/2023 19:43

Normally, yes I would look out for a response, but the email got buried under a lot of other emails that took priority. I just didn't see it.

OP posts:
Rjahdhdvd · 21/11/2023 19:44

If you didn’t confirm then no you aren’t liable I wouldn’t say

Mum34686 · 21/11/2023 19:47

The wording was "They have proposed [date] - is this OK?"

OP posts:
IrritableVowel · 21/11/2023 19:52

So the person who sent the email was trying to arrange an appointment that suited you and the "place".

You said I can do 3rd, 4th or 5th

Person emailed you to say "place" can do the 5th, is that OK?

You didn't see or reply to that email.

So I would have expected Person to check with you again. You didn't confirm apt.

Edited for typo

NigelHarmansNewWife · 21/11/2023 19:53

Then imo it wasn't confirmed. The person who sent you that email should have followed up.

If they had put, "X has been booked in on Y date. If this is no longer convenient, please let us know by Z date", then the onus would be on you to cancel.

Coconutter24 · 21/11/2023 19:53

I think if you gave them dates you’re available and one of those dates worked for them, you would assume they would book you in. They did that and then sent you an email with the appointment, which you didn’t see and then forgot about so I’d say it’s on you, you’re at fault.
They could have followed up to double check but it also depends how the email was ended. Did they say to confirm or did they say to let them know if not convenient?

Just seen your last update, if they asked about a proposed date that doesn’t mean they are booking you in they are checking a date which you didn’t confirm so I’ve changed my mind they are at fault

NigelHarmansNewWife · 21/11/2023 19:56

Communication is a skill, if this is someone working in maintenance for a housing association they need additional training. It's one thing to not be overly stuffy or formal, but you have to be clear.

Bobbob2015 · 21/11/2023 20:07

No you’re not being unreasonable, they should have chased when they didn’t hear from you. I run my own business and always ensure I have final confirmation from a client for dates.
