NC as obviously this is totally outing. New neighbours (a married couple, no kids) moved in a couple of months back and seemed perfectly OK and normal at first, went round to say hello and welcome them to the street and so on. Then I mentioned in passing I had two cats, at which point one of them started going on about how dreadful cats are for local birds. My cats are indoor cats so pose no threat whatsoever to wildlife - even if they escaped (which they have never done in over eight years of owning them), one of them is blind and the other one is so graceless and daft he can barely jump onto a chair, let alone catch a bird. I said this and then a few hours later the male neighbour sent me a whatsapp with links to several articles about cats damaging the local wildlife. Again I politely said, thanks very much, but this is irrelevant to me as my cats do not go outside and never have.

Anyway I thought they were weirdos but left it at that, until the other day when I received a very angry message saying there was a dead bird in their front garden and it was obvious that one of my cats had done it. They couldn't have done it as, again, they don't leave the house and they had not escaped. We live in a neighbourhood with plenty of other cats that do roam, plus foxes, so I daresay it was the work of a fox or one of the other neighbourhood cats. But my neighbour insists it must have been my cats because they are nearest, and that they must have escaped without me knowing (they didn't).

Anyway I think they are absolutely bonkers insane and the correct response is to ignore them but DH thinks we don't want to annoy them too much as they live next door. Surely - SURELY - I am not BU?

Or the massive rat infestation I was reading about yesterday! [shudder]

Oh yes! We get rats running along our back fence occasionally. Usually when those arseholes at Cleanaway doesn't bother coming around for a couple of weeks.

I wanted to update this thread as the crazies have managed to make enemies of basically all their near neighbours - I thought them blaming my indoor cats for killing a bird in their garden was crackers enough but they have since had a go at the fruit tree neighbours because their 4 year old DD stood outside their house (the crazies) whilst she was waiting for her mum to tie her shoelaces. Note she was not on their property in any way, and the crazies were not waiting to come out, she was just standing on the street outside. They also complained to a neighbour right at the far end of the street because his dog barked once at 9pm whilst they were watching TV (said neighbour has had this dog for years and I think I've only ever heard it bark once or twice - they're quite a few houses down!) We have a street whatsapp group without them now 😂

Blimey!

GoingOffOnATangent · 29/11/2023 13:37

4 year old children cluttering up the pavement 😳

GoingOffOnATangent · 29/11/2023 13:38

I hope they stay the funny side of barmy and don't tip into scary. 🤞🤞🤞

HeckyPeck · 29/11/2023 13:45

At least it's not just you I suppose 😅

A good way to bond with your other neighbours though. You could take bets on what they'll moan about next.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 29/11/2023 13:59

Sounds like the kind of people who keep me employed! I once had an ASB case raised because the neighbour stood outside the crazy complainants house, waiting for a taxi. Complainant wanted to know why they had to wait outside her house, and not their own. It was a maisonette, the neighbours house was at the back, the crazy complainants house at the front on the street where the taxi would come. Nope, according to the crazy lady this was tantamount to abuse and harassment as there were other places they could wait.

I've also had "the dog barks when I walk past, therefore they have trained the dog to be racist because I'm black" the dumb dog is blind so barks at every noise he hears..

See also, my neighbours are dumping leaves in my garden as theirs are free of leaves.......errrrm, its your garden with the tree!!

TryAgainWithFeeling · 29/11/2023 14:08

Why am I not surprised that their crazy is not limited to cats!

Glad you’ve found you’re in the same boat as your neighbours, let’s hope they stick to amusingly batshit complaining.

whatfreshheck · 29/11/2023 14:32

Start a nutty neighbour bingo. Complaints about kids, check. Complaints about cats, check etc etc

You realize this is a) why they had to move at all since this clearly happened in their last place of residence and b) their fears of a neighborhood conspiracy which is the next step for their craziness is now substantially true given your group

They want, like Greta Garbo, to be left alone. And they are going to let know repeatedly

When they first moved in they said how lovely it was that the street had a nice community, how they specifically wanted to be living in a street where the neighbours would help each other out etc. It's so odd.

GoingOffOnATangent · 30/11/2023 12:33

Maybe their interpretation of 'help each other' = 'concede happily to all their bonkers expectations'...
Won't they be disappointed when they discover the residents of this utopia also resist dwelling in the twistiverse with them... Gosh where will they move to next!?
So you think the neighbours in their previous perfectly normal suburbia hellhole threw a street party when they left?

Therealjudgejudy · 30/11/2023 13:32

They sound unhinged!

SingingSands · 30/11/2023 13:39

I'm loving the updates OP, could you keep this thread open for the next few years and just post their latest bonkers exploits? 😁

bombastix · 30/11/2023 13:48

@PugginBaby - oh I think that's normal if you thought your last set of neighbours were all nasty cranks.

Don't be the person who takes pity on them and tries to make friends. That person is doomed

Zimunya · 30/11/2023 13:51

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 21/11/2023 12:41

I think you should try and out crazy them tbh.

Text them saying "It couldn't possibly have been my cat's as I've been with them constantly for the last 72 hours. Clearly this is the work of your outdoor cat. You should really keep it indoors as they're dreadful for local birds, here's some useful links."

When they inevitably reply and deny even having a cat you can raise the crazy even further and tell them you know they're lying as you've seen the cat coming and going from their house.

That should be enough to make them find another target for their cat rage.

Ha ha! This is brilliant!!

Allchangehereagain · 30/11/2023 13:59

@PugginBaby just tell them that you’ve looked over all the information they’ve sent and yes they are correct. You now see the error of your ways and have got rid of the cats.

Seeing as they are crazy you’ll never invite them over so they’ll never know your lovely cats are sat happily in your house.

PugginBaby · 04/12/2023 19:07

My husband (I've blocked them) received a text message this morning saying "we can still see your cats preying on birds from the window. please can you take steps to ensure they are not let out of the house at any point as we are very concerned about the effects of cats on local wildlife. thank you."

I suppose it was polite at least?! BUT HOW CAN THEY SEE MY CATS?! Unless they are standing in my back garden?????

funbags3 · 04/12/2023 19:10

Just tell them you've dobbed your cats into the RSPCA and that an arrest will be made soon.

Keepinmovin · 04/12/2023 19:10

He could reply with some of the cracking replies above !

Have they seen another cat and think it's yours Do you think? Mistaken feline identity?

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 05/12/2023 17:48

Hi ndn. I have spoken to the dcats and the consensus is you need to fuck off....

From op.. Then block.

LudicrousDickbiscuit · 05/12/2023 17:59

They do realise there can be more than one cat the same colour as yours, right?

TurquoiseThings · 07/12/2023 01:52

I'd be tempted to get your DH to reply telling them to stop bloody looking in your windows!! Perverts!

🤣
