I am a migraine sufferer . Usually once per week. This is managed well by sumatriptan and beta blockers. I’m now pregnant and have been told that I cannot take these during pregnancy.
I have spoken to a GP and pharmacist both of who said to take pain relief that is safe in pregnancy. Which is limited. Problem is that this doesn’t even touch the migraine. I’ve had one since last night and need to get up for work in a minute. How do I cope with this pain?
At this stage I will do anything (that is safe in pregnancy). I can’t take the pain. Any tips?

I use the Asda strong ibupofen pain relief tablets. They are the only thing that work for me, tablets wise. Sumatriptan did nothing. I also have a head cap thing I keep in the freezer. That and going to sleep/lying in a dark room.

Mine are brought on by anxiety or stress but the more I stress about my head the worse it gets!

I suffered the same in pregnancy, I was getting one every couple of days and they lasted about two days. If in second trimester I was ok'd for ibuprofen and triptans - but the triptans no more than twice a week so they didn't lose their effectiveness. Sleep helped but hard with a job (and with second pregnancy!). I eventually was prescribed amitriptyline after being referred to a consultant. It did work although made me incredibly sleepy.

Acupuncture helped and worked really well normally but barely at all when pregnant. Go back to your gp or see another one who might hopefully understand how they can affect your quality of life.

Apologies, the pictures are in reverse order.
Try this, I can't vouch for it as I'm also on beta blockers and haven't had a migraine to test it on yet.

Have you had your iron levels checked? Low ferritin levels was giving me regular migraines. I'm on iron tablets now which seem to be helping.

i took sumatriptan whilst pregnant, my migraines are quite violent and debilitating so I think my GP and the hospital thought it was the lesser of 2 evils.

The Cefaly device has been brilliant for me. It’s basically a TENS device for your forehead.

It has reduced migraine frequency and severity - has prophylactic mode as well as painkiller one. Not cheap but worth every penny for me.

I found I hardly had a migraine whilst pregnant. I did take cocodamol during pregnancy and agree sleeping in a dark quiet room is the best thing for a migraine, if your unconscious you can’t feel the pain.
