I’m a monthly donor for years. Only now have I read one of their emails and discovered that the word woman is nowhere in sight.
It bothers me. Maybe that makes me an arse. I emailed them about it, but I’m not sure I feel comfortable spending my money on a charity that can’t use the word woman when talking about unwanted pregnancy. AIBU to cancel my donation and if so who should it go to? Thanks!

Nice bit of ageism and misogyny there 🙄

Oh the bloody irony.

Inclusion only goes one way. YANBU OP, only women ( and girls sadly) can be in need of abortion.

Maybe the way to go is to start campaigning for men's stuff being inclusive like women stuff and get rid of the word "men".... You know, equality and inclusivity for all. Wonder how long it would take for tide to turn on that.
Quite frankly, surprised that trans/non binary don't do so as heavily as on women's stuff? Must be as traumatising to read news and info about men's health screening as it is about women's health....

Cancer research is doing inclusion right. No one is left out

"Who gets cervical cancer?Cervical cancer is most common in women in their early 30’s.

Trans men and non-binary people assigned female at birth can also develop cervical cancer. This can happen when they haven't had an operation to remove their womb and cervix (total hysterectomy)."

All these organisations disappearing the word woman in a bid for 'inclusiveness' are being ridiculous.

If you are inclusive, you add provision/representation etc you don't take it away.

If they want to show support for the incredibly tiny number of Trans Men and non-binary people seeking abortion support then instead of disappearing the words women and woman they need to add the other people.

"We support women, trans men and non-binary people to access abortion services and support."

Yes it is more wordy but it is also the only way to be inclusive.

Surely it’s more inclusive to just say “people”….

@Clarabell77

'People' do not get pregnant, women do, the female kind.

If we say that 50% of people have the capacity for pregnancy. Which people are they?

If we say that 1/5 people are at risk of pregnancy related injuries is that 1/5 of the entire population or 1/10 of the population because is only 1/5 of half the population, the female half?

Why do 1/2 the population have to stop being known as women to enable less than 1% of the population to pretend that they are not the sex that they were born, despite doing things like getting pregnant which are completely sex based conditions?

And to ask again, why is it only Women who are expected to make these changes not men?

“why do 1/2 the population have to stop being known as women”

They don’t. This is about one organisation’s decision to use a specific kind of language to fulfil their commitment to inclusion.

Are you also worried that “Christmas” is being phased out in favour of “Happy Holidays” and “Easter eggs” should never be called “chocolate eggs” - because this is what this sounds like to me.

CyberCritical · 21/11/2023 12:08

But it isn't one organisation.

NHS have moved away from the word woman, cervical cancer charities, menstrual product companies, abortion services, refuges.

We're seeing it everywhere. It's a completely false equivalency to liken the eradication of the word 'Woman' so as to appease a tiny minority who are unwilling to accept biological reality, with a few people wanting to refer to a festival by a different name.

And what if their 'commitment to inclusion' has the effect of excluding women with English as an additional language, women with low literacy, women with learning difficulties? Not very inclusive at all really, is it?
