To think they had someone else in mind before I even went in?

I interviewed for a role on Friday - should hear by tomorrow if I’ve got it - but when I went in they clearly had no interest in me or what I was saying. I am qualified for the role but they cut me off twice when I was responding. In fact, before the interview had even started they were quite offhand with me.
Perhaps I’m not what they are looking for but I felt to be interrupted - twice - isn’t great. And I’d not gone on for ages. Maybe two minutes per question? It only last twenty minutes in total.
Im not getting the job, am I?
There were three people interviewing and one was late. We waited about ten minutes and the other two didn’t say a word to me - I tried to make small talk about the organisation / job and they just gave me one word answers and then went back into silence.
I have concluded that they must already know who they want, because they weren’t interested in me even before the interview had started.

Yep, also agree with the comments re public sector. I get it's supposed to make things "fairer" but all it does is waste peoples time. I have seen instances where they've got away with not advertising a role, not sure how. At least then no one else is getting their hopes up that they'll be offered it. However, I have also benefited from it in the past. None of it is really fair. I'm sorry you've had that experience.

They called about 2pm and said I didn’t get it.
The start date was 27th November on the ad - which was very quick after interview and I did say I wouldn’t be able to start until after that due to notice period - I don’t think many people would interview ten days before a start date and be able to take it?
Im disappointed but not surprised. They rang and said ‘you weren’t successful,’ and I said thanks for letting me know, would I be able to have any feedback? And she said ‘you
can email at some point if you want to.’
So I might not bother!

God I hate those sort of interviews. Sorry it's gone down that way OP. Very frustrating for you. Don't email for feedback, just mentally blacklist them. I don't think these sort of employers realise why they have no candidates after a few years of treating people like this.
I wish they'd change the law to ban sham interviews because the current law does nothing about preferred candidates and just wastes everyone else's time and money getting time off to attend them.
