To not bother with a baby monitor?

This obviously isn’t a big deal, I’m just wondering. We bought a monitor when expecting first baby, but he was in with me for the first six months and after that I found the monitor really disruptive as if he woke up his cries would echo on it. I never didn’t wake up to him so just stopped using it. We now have another baby and the monitor is still gathering dust. I accept it may just be a crap monitor but interested if anyone else didn’t bother with one!

Had one for the first as thought it was the done thing but never bothered using it with the other 2 after that. Unless you live in a mansion you'll hear them if they're upset!!

Some people scare monger about choking, choking is completely silent and you wouldn't hear it. You just get to be disturbed by every cough and whimper they make during the night when they're absolutely fine!

Depends on the layout of your house I think. We live in a 3 bed semi- could hear DS fart at night whether we were upstairs or downstairs. His bedroom is next to us and we left our door wide open at night. We had a monitor but didn't use it really as it amplified every sound and I woke up when he turned over in his cot.
No way would we have not heard him if he needed us. I also used to pop my head around his door (steathily!) about a 100 times a night to look at him before I went to bed. First night he 'slept through' and woke up at 7 am (instead of 2.30am and 5.30 am) I freaked out and ran the three strides to his room in a panic.
He is in his early 20's now. We still live in the same house but he has the bigger room and a double bed and I don't go in his room to check on him 😂I also wear earplugs to bed and woe betide if he wakes me coming in late at night.
