Alternatives to psychiatric units?

Does anyone know of residential facilities offering psychological support for issues like anxiety and depression? The person in question is quite vulnerable and taking medications. Not a young person.

I know of the Priory and Kirion. Don't know if they're any good. Open to places with a Christian ethos also.

Don't need rehab for addiction issues and the person probably wouldn't be accepted there due to medications they're taking.

Thanks. Posting shamelessly here for traffic.

Whereabouts are you?

For a Christian hospital there is Burrswood Hospital in the South East.

If you need a short term place for a crisis there was a place in The Potteries (Stoke) that was open weekends for those in crisis but not psychotic enough for hospital. You could self refer. I stayed there and it was lovely just four beds and very peaceful . This is as about 14 years ago mind, I'm no longer in the area.

Have a google?

Google doesn't tell you how realistic it is that you could secure a place.

Also.... does it need to be said? Is it kind? Et cetera. Please 🙏

I know someone who stayed in the priory and they found it good. What sort of price are you looking at? They can cost a lot of money, especially if you need to stay for a long time

Thanks for these suggestions.

I think a stay of a couple of months is likely.

I need somewhere like this myself.
If it was a good bit cheaper I'd consider the Priory also, but last time I checked it was around £1000 per week!!

StellarPerformance · 20/11/2023 19:00

The Priory now costs an average of £4-6k per month, depending on whether you require detox or just rehab.

StellarPerformance · 20/11/2023 19:01

per Week, not per month

I attended the Priory as a day patient for a while and found it great. Very expensive though, sadly. There could be something local in the charity sector?

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 20/11/2023 19:05

I’ve been in the Priory. It was shit. Just gave you antipsychotics to shut you up when it suited and almost every other patient was smoking and getting drunk (one lined all the bottles of alcohol up against her wall just before she left and it was the whole room, another was taken to hospital with alcohol poisoning). Now on the waiting list for NHS hospitalisation. For all their faults they actually want you to get better. And it’s closer to £1000k per day than £4000 per month.

There are some interesting alternatives out there. The Pilsdon Community in Dorset and Windsor Hill Wood in Somerset spring to mind. But these are places where people can have some respite / seek a way of living that can help with recovery rather than alternatives to inpatient care.
