Ah was I rude? Subway sandwich shop

Out doing a bit of Christmas shopping today and needed something to eat. I'm gluten intolerant so often struggle to find places when I can get stuff but subway does a gluten free bread and I was near one.

There was a massive queue and the gluten free bread is often out of stock so rather than waiting in the queue I popped in the other side and went to the till where a member of staff was serving another customer. Once that transaction was finished I politely asked if they had GF bread in stock, was told they didn't, thanked the person and left. The whole thing took less than five mins rather than 10+ standing the the queue would have.

The friend I was with is adamant that I was really rude and hopped the queue and that I should have stood and waited.

I don't think I was rude - I didn't go in front of anyone waiting to be served, and it made more sense to check as quickly as possible rather than queuing in the small shop to find out.

Wibu?

You were rude at all. I’ve no idea why your friend would think that you were.

wokbun · 19/11/2023 18:45

You're fine- if they'd had the bread you would have joined the queue

NotTerfNorCis · 19/11/2023 18:45

No point queueing if you're not going to buy anything.

If you'd had a lengthy query, that would have been different.

henrysugar12 · 19/11/2023 18:46

No point queuing to find out they don't have it! Nothing wrong here!

margotrose · 19/11/2023 18:47

Nope, you were absolutely fine.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 19/11/2023 18:47

No. Sounds like a perfectly sensible thing to do.

Do you think your friend is either upset that you didn't keep them company in the queue, or that you both then had to go somewhere else and they wanted the subway?

She'd already picked up a cornish pasty and a hot chocolate so I don't think so but who knows! Did ask if she wanted anything but she said she wasn't fussed about subway.

She's very sensitive over stuff like this!

Your friend needs to give her head a shake

I don't think you were rude at all. It takes 30s to ask if they have gluten free bread and for them to answer. No point queuing only to find out they don't.

It's not as if they said yes and then you proceeded to place your order, skipping the queue. Presumably, had they had the bread, you would have gone back and joined the queue.

Yep if they'd had it I would have joined the queue at the back! (though maybe asked if they could save me a GF bread! 😁🤣)
