random but urgent qu - how to replicate dishwasher fading on glass?

Child's favorite glass got broken. Generally difficult to get them to drink and the favorite glass is the only guaranteed success route. Otherwise meltdowns etc

It is very old and many years ago had a brand logo on it not this but like this sort of thing
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175682283892

The logo had disappeared years ago before child born due to many years of dishwasher washing.

I have managed to source a second hand one on ebay thank god but of course it has a logo on it.It is a very specific shaped glass to compound the problem so I couldn't just buy an off the shelf replacement.

Anyone got any suggestions about how I can quickly fade this logo back to it's disappeared state to imitate the dishwasher fade?

I'm worried that things like scrub with a metal scourer or similar will just damage the glass or scratch it.

It was difficult to find a replacement so I don't want to mess it up.

Any suggestions?

Run through dishwasher on hot cycle?

Melstarrynight · 19/11/2023 17:41

How about rubbing a plastic scouter over it to see what happens. Fingers not enough try find sandpaper.

Melstarrynight · 19/11/2023 17:42

Ugh that should read'if thats not enough try fine sand paper'.

Any chance you can hold out until Christmas and Father Christmas bring the new one?

Escapefromhell · 19/11/2023 17:45

Acetone…. You can buy it from chemists/pound shops. It is sold to remove acrylic nails. Ordinarily nail varnish remover is weaker. I would soak a pad of cotton wool and leave it over the design for a minute or so and see if it wipes off.

thanks for the suggestions.
the hold out to christmas is a nice idea but desperate times here..

Can't you just say you gave it a really good clean overnight?

What kind of really good clean restores a logo??

Child is very difficult about drinking so wanted to keep it the same. I suppose we could try with the logo on it and see how it goes but not optimistic.

If desperate tonight you could soak cotton wool in nail polish remover, put the sodden cotton wool over the logo, wrap in clingfilm, leave overnight and then scrub with more cotton wool in the morning. Otherwise maybe paint stripper ??

Could father Christmas know how much they love the glass so got an elf to drop it off early especially? If that might get the new one to go down okay?

If not:

Was it only the logo the dishwasher had faded or had it done that white-ish glass thing mine does over the years?

If it was only the logo I think you could try with a metal scourer, though maybe gently - I haven't had them scratch glass myself. I'd also try white spirit and nail varnish remover (not together!) if you have any in the house.

I once accidentally ruined a vase by soaking it in a sink with hot water and a dissolved dishwasher tablet (a 3 in 1 powerball one)—after a few hours the glass went from clear to cloudy and looked 10 years older

Acetone, paint remover.

Is it a coca cola shape?

The logo has 'grown back' because the glass wasn't used enough, the only way to remove it is by drinking out of it lots of times.

Magic eraser maybe?

FrozenGhost · 21/11/2023 04:21

I've removed a logo from a glass bottle by soaking it in white vinegar. It just wiped off after soaking for a few hours.
