Paranoid about blood test, painkillers.

Hi long story short

I have chronic pain issues and changed GP recently as I wanted more input to my care.

Was long term px opiate pain killers and they said this was not the right method for pain.

They do work as not using them has left me in dreadful pain. I have scoliosis and adenomyosis, slipped discs and nerve damage.

I have asked several times to reinstate opiate pain killers and they are resistant. It's offensive.

I have a blood test scheduled for base line in the coming week. I am paranoid they will base line check me for pain killers. Is this allowed without my consent or knowledge? Is this a thing that GPS can do?

Thanks

Changing GP's and demanding opiates is problematic.

The bloods are probably to check your kidney and liver function. Do you have the blood form to see what has been requested.

Sorry OP, but what do you mean? The phlebotomist doing the blood test or the GP? Either way, I'm not sure what you mean?

Surely you realise why they are reticent to prescribe opiates? Have you asked to be referred to chronic pain clinic? Maybe a slow release patch or a nerve specific med like gabapentin would be more suitable, and provide better pain relief. I assume you have seen a gynae for the adenomyosis and ortho for the scoliosis? What have they suggested? Hysterectomy? Could the scoliosis be improved by rods? Physio? Brace?

Are you taking them without prescription then?

MargaretThursday · 19/11/2023 14:45

Do you mean that you're getting the opiates elsewhere and you're worried it will come up on your bloods?

The answer is that I don't know if they'll check, but if you are getting them elsewhere then you need to be honest with them, as otherwise you could end up with medication that clashes.

I have them from before.

She prescribed nerve medication and titrating me up.

I want to know if she will check for opiates in blood, as I am taking my old pain killers

It's unreasonable to not prescribe them. They help me to move around. She feels like a martyr.

I have been referred to pain clinic. Wait time is 2 years. I've asked about going back on a patch. She told me not to go private as they take my money. I don't really care if they take my money and it means I can keep up with cleaning the house, work, children.

I'm not demanding opiates, im asking to continue with medication I had up until I changed to her. I want a relationship with my GP not just a prescription.

Not sure on human rights to pain relief or not

There's no clash. I have been on that combination before.

Go private.

I got seen within 2 weeks and he was very happy to prescribe me painkillers and nerve drugs. I'm on duloxetine and naproxen.

Same person who runs the pain clinic at my local hospital.

GPs don't like handing out painkillers but pain consultants do not have a problem with it and once they have sent a letter the GP is normally fine.

I really hope they consent to giving you your opiates back. Please beg, I would.
