Sorry posting here for traffic.
At 2 or 3am a few nights ago I saw something biggish (bigger than anything else I could see) that seemed to be jumping around, staying in the same area of the sky.
I thought it might be a satellite and wanted to know if my eyes were playing tricks, decided to film it.
I kept my phone as still as I could manage, it was stood on top of the open window.
What was super surprising when I zoomed-in were the shape and colours. I was expecting maybe a vaguely spiky thing (satellite) but it was like a sphere, with colours changing as if revolving. And yes it was jumping around.

Here are some zoomed-in stills I know they look like disco lights, I wished I could post the film, it was like a flaming (?)revolving thing, so thought it might be a star after all, but there were many that night and they don't show at all?

We live in a deeply rural area and beyond that, in the direction of that light, the sea is about 10 miles away.
Any ideas what this is?

YABU - Why are you looking at the sky?
YANBU - I know what this is, it's a ...

Does Capella's light change between primary colours?

HelpNeededBeforeIHaveABreakdown · 20/11/2023 14:27

I did have a really good place for a telescope... but we are moving so I opted to pass it on to a friend. It will be heading to Shetland soon, hopefully I will get to see it again one day!

Does Capella's light change between primary colours?

Yes Capella appears to change colour when it is low in the sky and earth's atmosphere makes it look different colours.

So not a boring drone or exciting visitors 👽 but something even more gobsmacking. A beautiful big shiny but oh so pretty star? 😱🌟

LoveHema · 21/11/2023 20:29
