AIBU or Free Spin Offers are a Rip Off

Are all these introductory offers from gambling sites just a rip off?

I realise long term there's only one winner when it comes to gambling but I assumed these free offers were a way of drawing mug punters in and were "legitimate" so to speak.

Having just signed up to three well known "reputable" sites for their Free Spin offers I then "won" £37, £25 and £32... not bad I thought for half an hours work lay in bed on a cold wet Sunday morning.

I then immediately withdrew my "winnings" either in the form of direct payment or High Street Vouchers but having checked my email inbox to see if they've arrived instead I've got 3 "Account Closure Notification" emails from the 3 betting sites.

Have I made a rookie mistake? Should I have left my winnings in the account for a period of time? Or are they all just a rip off and never honour these free opening offers?

Can't say for certain without knowing the sites and offers involved. But often a free spin offer will have some kind of wagering requirement before you can access the winnings. So you may need to wager, for example, 10x your winnings before it moves from your bonus balance into your account balance. Not surprisingly, most of the time this wipes out your bonus balance before the site needs to pay out. It's not exactly illegal, but it renders the offer close to worthless.

Also, you don't specify whether this was a no deposit offer. If you had to deposit funds in order to trigger the free spins, I'd be making sure that any money you paid into the account was coming back to you. If there's no sign of the money, I'd be checking where the site is registered and regulated (usually somewhere like Gibraltar, Channel Islands, Curacao, some other tax haven) and raising the issue with that regulator.

But overall, yeah, anything involving free spins and slot machines is a means of losing money. I've managed to turn a small profit betting on sports, but nothing useful from online casinos or slots.

I won £45 last week paid straight into my bank account, no wagering, I'm very anti gambling so knew I would be drawn in to then spend my own money. I was pleasantly surprised! This was on betfair and skyvegas.

I do casino offers in my spare time. I have a team casino membership so follow their guide on each offer. Its been very profitable for me.

No they're not a rip-off. But you're probably doing them wrong if you're not making a profit. And most offers won't make you a profit - you need to only do ones with statistical likelihood of being profitable. A new customer immediately withdrawing winnings is a sure fire way to get your account closed!

Odds monkey membership, or Team Casino, if you want to do this long term. But be careful - you may have periods where you lose money. The more offers you do, the less volatile winning and losing periods are. And it can be addictive so don't be tempted to do an offer that isn't positive variance. If in doubt don't do it.

Gambling sites are not in it to make money for the punters...

Hence why they ban you if they think that's what you're doing Wink

Thank you for the replies, these were all "no deposit" offers, so basically I'm guessing they are effectively worthless and you have to continue gambling beyond your free spins until the point where your "winnings" have been wiped out!
I realise they're only designed to suck in mug punters but surely even the most gullible mug would only be drawn in if they actually won something as a result of the free spin offers!

From my experience and what I've learned, it's always a good idea to carefully read the terms and conditions of any offer before diving in. Some sites may require you to play through your winnings a certain number of times before you can withdraw them, or they may have other conditions you need to meet.
I've found that sites like Japanese Casino Reviews can be really helpful in understanding the ins and outs of different gambling platforms. They often provide insights into how to make the most of these offers while staying within the rules.

I believe the Tories have been quietly relaxing regulation on the gambling industry for the last decade. Its barely been reported because these companies have so much advertising money to splash around.

First, pay attention to the presence of a license, usually information about it is posted at the bottom of the pagcor online gaming list website. Licensed casinos are usually regulated by regulatory authorities. Second, read reviews on independent resources and forums - this will help you understand how the site behaves with players. Make sure that the casino has 24/7 support and a variety of withdrawal methods.

It's definitely not the case. I do casino offers and have made a large sum of money over the 3 or 4 years I have been doing it. The hard part is sticking to the offers and not getting tempted to do extra spins to recoup losses.
