On 3 March, my little boy was 3. We sent a card into Cbeebies. It got on - according to friends who saw it by chance. We didn't see it because the birthdays were shown in the schedules as being at 8.10 but they did them at about 7.55 and we switched on half way through. I have e-mailed the BBC three times to see if they'll make an exception to the "no recordings" rule. They haven't even acknowledged. We're gutted that we missed it as we know ho thrilled Marcus would be to see himself on the TV. Is it worth pursuing?

Yes I would

SSSandy2 · 12/03/2008 10:00

I had to email the bbc about something (teletubbies I think) many years ago and I didn't hear anything but 2 months later someone found the mail and I got a lovely response.

Your mails may not be reaching the right person. Is there a different mail address you could use (search the site a bit maybe) or write them a letter and post it.

Racers · 12/03/2008 10:00

I probably wouldn't because it sounds like they're unlikely to do anything. But then I would have recorded quite a few items that morning in the hope of catching the birthdays bit. Maybe someone on MN has it?

Racers · 12/03/2008 10:01

Oh x-posted, maybe there is a hope of a reply from them then?!

TsarChasm · 12/03/2008 10:02

Well worth a try maybe, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

I am still smarting with them for not showing the 64 Zoo Lane card I sent in for my dd about 6 years ago (sulk).

NKfffffffff965fbe2X118a26162da · 12/03/2008 15:46

Thanks for all your replies. I was all set to record it that morning, which was why I'd switched on early - hence the even greater disappointment that it was already on. If I'd not relied on their schedules, I'd have been recording from the crack of dawn - which is what makes it even more annoying. Yes, please, if anyone has a recording I'd be amazingly grateful for a copy. The birthday was on 3 March. The birthday boy was Marcus, who was three, and the card was Finla the Fire Engine - and it was anything but brilliant in terms of artistic ability, but it meant a lot to us!!! I think the BBC is rubbish for treating people like they don't exist, but maybe I'll get a response in two months too, although I'd have thought they'd have a system ...

I spent a week making a card for my DDs 2nd birthday last yr, paid a lot of postage and put a lot of hard work into it, and on the day i turned cbeebies on and told DD to watch......nothing!! it was never shown i was so annoyed and felt awfull for DD who was wondering why she was told to look out for a special card on the telly box

I'm sorry but I don't think they will help. Ive seen several threads bout people requesting this for their children and not one has actually got it.

CoffeeNChoc I do a card every year and not shown any either. My fingers are crossed for this year. I think its best not to tell Dcs to avoid disappointment because there probably more not shown than shown.

TsarChasm · 12/03/2008 16:37

Radio 4 Jura?? I probably heard you, I have it on all the time.

bobsmum · 12/03/2008 16:46

The cbeebies bloke was on MN a few weeks ago and he said they get something like 3000 birthday cards a week, so NKFF was very lucky to get shown and it's not surprising that other people haven't had theirs on.

beaniesteve · 12/03/2008 16:49

what is the no recordings rule please?

you should contact the Library sales team, they might make you a copy though they will charge.

beaniesteve · 12/03/2008 16:50

NKfffffffff965fbe2X118a26162da who did you contact?

Jura, in case it helps in the future, it is possible to save recordings with hijack software. If you have a Mac it's dead simple but I am sure there is similar software for the PC. worth googling if there is a next time!

what does Charlotte Green look like? Saw one of the other 'voices of radio 4' at recording of ISIHAC once - could have been her, even - and she wasn't at all like her voice. Sounds like a chocolate advert, all rich and creamy -looked very plain and dressed like a librarian (apols to librarians but you know the stereotype)!

TsarChasm · 13/03/2008 10:03

How lovely Jura!

I always imagine Charlotte Green as a bit of an ice-queen newsreader. Un-flappable

Mind you doesn't she read out the quotes on the news quiz sometimes? She gets lovely and giggly then

edam · 13/03/2008 10:03

I think the Beeb should stick all the pictures up online. Very unfair to have, what, 2,950 disappointed children and parents every week?

NKfffffffff965fbe2X118a26162da · 13/03/2008 12:18

Thanks again for all the responses. I know we were lucky to get the card on at all. I guess there was an unconscious thing about thinking it wouldn't be on which is why we weren't stuck to the telly from the crack of dawn! Think I'm going to have to let it lie, unless anyone knows someone better organised than us who did manage to record it. Still fed up that the BBC hasn't acknowledged my e-mails though. Have offered to pay for recording etc.

I think your best bet is having another go next year. No one will get you a recording, its not about the money, they just don't have the facilities / time and wouldn't want to set a precedent (I imagine) or they'd be forever at it.

SoupDragon · 13/03/2008 13:21

This is no help whatsoever, but don't they show the birthday cards more than once in the day? I'm sure on one sad occasion I made a mental note of them and they were the same set of cards.

Anyway, YABU to expect the BBC to help you but they should reply to say this.
