Not to wake up my baby

Newpeoplenap · 17/11/2023 19:55

We live far away from in laws - the last few times they have arrived to stay, our baby has been napping.

Lots of hints to wake him up as they impatient to see him - I think I’m obviously not unreasonable to let him sleep but am I?

Personally I wouldn't wake him up.

Leo227 · 17/11/2023 19:57

I wouldn't. surely they can wait 40 mins or whatever it is.

Sapphire387 · 17/11/2023 19:58

Yanbu. What kind of selfish person wants to wake a sleeping baby so they can play with him/her?

Comtesse · 17/11/2023 19:58

my MIL would say never wake a sleeping baby and she’s right - babies need their sleep as much as anyone else!

WAC1 · 17/11/2023 19:59

How old? If they were only visiting for a short while and baby was asleep, personally I'd wake. If they were staying longer or overnight, I'd just wait. I've always been quite chilled about naps though 🤷‍♀️

Newsenmum · 17/11/2023 19:59

How long does he sleep for? I’m assuming not the whole time.

PurplePansy05 · 17/11/2023 19:59

YANBU, definitely

Newpeoplenap · 17/11/2023 20:00

Staying all weekend, he usually naps for 1-1.5 hrs

Christ no!

MarleyandMarleyWoo · 17/11/2023 20:02

Not a bloody chance would I be waking that baby. They can wait for goodness sake.

sarahc336 · 17/11/2023 20:02

Never wake a sleeping baby 🤣🤣

TheShellBeach · 17/11/2023 20:02

No chance would I wake a sleeping baby.

sexnotgenders · 17/11/2023 20:03

You have to be utterly deranged to want to wake a sleeping baby!!! Got 2 kids, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever woke them up on purpose. Given I've spent what feels like years trying to actually get them to sleep, why, oh why, would I then go and wake them up

ClearConfusion · 17/11/2023 20:11

NO!! don’t wake the baby, they can wait to see him, and if he doesn’t wake before they have to leave, then tough. Babies need their sleep. I HATE waking babies/toddlers, I had to do this every school day with my third. Guilt guilt guilt.

jannier · 17/11/2023 20:14

If it was an hour's trip I'd wake him if longer no there being stupid

HungryandIknowit · 17/11/2023 20:41

Not a chance.

Mummymummy89 · 17/11/2023 20:43

I wouldn't even wake him if they were only there for an hour. Absolutely no way.

Gazing adoringly at a sleeping baby is the best thing to do with a baby anyway. Way better than seeing the screaming baby getting wrestled onto a breast.

Your in laws are so so unreasonable

Mamato29192 · 17/11/2023 20:46

Yanbu

AnneElliott · 17/11/2023 20:49

No chance. DS was so terribly grumpy the only time we ever tried it. So no would be my answer.

strawberry2017 · 17/11/2023 20:49

Hell no. They can wait

Scottishskifun · 17/11/2023 20:52

Why the hell would you wake a sleeping baby to then deal with the fall out?!

Not a chance in hell just laugh and say your here all weekend don't worry you can spend lots of time together!

My MIL got annoyed at me when we were visiting when DS1 was a baby as she wanted us to keep him up 2 hours+ after his bedtime because she had plans each evening after work..... ummmm nope she knew we were coming and he was a nightmare out of routine (still is at 4!)

Devilsmommy · 17/11/2023 20:54

Most important piece of advice for moms. Never, ever, ever wake a sleeping baby. It's like summoning a 👿 🤣🤣🤣

Daisybuttercup12345 · 17/11/2023 20:57

No. That won't happen. End of.
