AIBU asking for advice about using AI?

Everyone keeps telling me that AI will be doing everything for us in the near future and that there is lots of AI online that will rewrite things for you and do stuff for you.
However how in the world do you find this AI that is going to rewrite the copy for your marketing plan or take your mediocre words about a project and turn them into something spicy and exciting?
I feel so old and like a luddite that there is this new thing everyone says will change the world but I have no idea how it works or how to access it.

I would suggesting going onto Youtube, and searching for a video guide on "How to Use ChatGPT".
ChatGPT is one of the famous AI programs, and you can get a free account on it to use and try out.

Oi, leave us luddites out of it! 🤣
I don't know much about AI, but it is seriously a worrying thought that in the not too distant future they could be the next race on earth!!
I wouldn't want them doing anything for me, tbh, as - so far - they can't even string words together well enough to create a decent storyline, from what I've seen!
And recipes...well, thank heavens they aren't actually feeding us!!

Yes, ChatGPT. It’s a website not an app. You need an account - I have linked my google one to it.

As 👆🏻 said, chatgpt is very handy. I find it less so for actually rewriting, but you can ask it (and just ask it conversationally, as if asking a friend) to do something like ‘I’m trying to put together some copy to market x product to y market, what points would you make or focus on’ and see what it says. You can input something you’ve written (if not too long I think, for the free version) and explain what it’s for , and ask it to rewrite it. Just try logging into chatgpt and see how you get on. Imagine it’s a very smart friend and you’re just asking it for advice.

As others suggested, you can use ChatGPD but unless you pay for subscription, the functionality is limited. You also need to do a lot of "algorithm training" for it to sound human.
I don't buy into a whole panic about AI though. I know it will never be able to do my job (clinical) and it won't replace jobs that rely on human interaction and skill. I don't see there being a cyborg hairdresser or care and support worker in my lifetime.

I have only just started using AI, but it is good. It basically does the research that used to take me hours to do and summarises it nicely when I need something for a project rather quickly.

Asking ChatGPT the right questions to get what you want takes some getting used to; you have to be insanely precise, but that, in itself, is a skill.

There are many other AI programmes out there that I'd like to try, all linked to my profession, which could save me many hours of work in the future.

What creeped me out (and what ChatGPT is refusing to answer) is how my profile picture is a very old profile picture I used many years ago on some websites, but it will not let me edit it, nor will it disclose where exactly it has taken the picture from.

If you are in a job that deals with writing up stuff, designing presentations or being creative, worry. There is a reason that actors just came off strike in the US. While there are still many tell-tale signs of AI use, they are becoming more and more subtle each day.

I don't know why people think that AI is so great. It keeps making mistakes. You will be handing in work that is full of mistakes. The person you hand it to might not realise this. That can't be good.

For an example, there is an Indian soup called dahl, dhal or dal. I have just asked AI how this is spelled in India, in the devanagari script which is the most common script in India. The correct answer is दाल but it came up with wrong answers.

Another example, in Middle-Eastern history there is an important character called Ali, the fourth Caliph. I asked AI how many sons Ali had. It said 3 and named them (Hasan, Husayn and Muhsin). I knew of two others so I asked about them (Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyya and Abbas). It said they were sons of Ali. So it contradicts itself. It just seems to take information from the internet and present it to us without any understanding of contradictions.
