Male waxing (Sorry if it's TMI)

Posting for traffic as I'm not sure the best place for this thread. Long time MNer but NC for this Grin.

DS(15) has asked for a back and crack (not sack 🙂) wax for Christmas. He is quite hairy on the legs but not noticeably anywhere else, although his lower back is quite hairy above his trousers. He has quite mediterranean colouring so maybe hairier than some of his friends.

He says he has a hairy bum (I assume he means inside IYKWIM) so would like to try this.

I have to admit I know nothing about this sort of thing - only ever got waxed once and never again - so not my area of expertise. We live in darkest rural nowhere so not close to a big city and I suspect don't have many places where metrosexual type men are likely to go for this type of thing.

He doesn't want it carried out by a woman. Where would I look to book something like this - other than a (ladies) beauty parlour? Do men carry it out?

And is it a sensible move? Would it help over time or stimulate more growth? I'm happy to support him with his request to try it at least once - but just don't know where to start. Any advice would be very welcome......

This has got to be totally made up ffs, no legit salon would touch a child in an intimate area and you know that.

Indoorcatmum · 16/11/2023 22:34

If you are unable to find a good waxer he is comfortable with, then Nair is another option.

But waxing is great, the hair doesn't grow back worse... In fact it softens and is a far better option than shaving.
No stubble and if he does it for a VERY long time (decades) the hair will become more sparse.

I would encourage him not to worry about the gender of the waxer. Remind him they see all sorts!!!

It is a commitment though and not much point just doing it once.
To get great and consistent results it takes about 3 or 4 times for all the hair to sync up.

But honestly, if you could seeing it financially, laser hair removal is a far better option.
Several sessions and he won't have to worry about this (other than a top up occasionally) for the rest of his life.

I am unsure re age limits for waxing and laser, probably best to check that out before getting his hopes up.

IPL machine for Christmas (Phillips lumea)?

MonkeyPuddle · 16/11/2023 22:37

Nope. Not engaging in the chat of intimate waxing of a minor.
reported.

NotDavidBeckham · 16/11/2023 22:38

Oh goodness, I never even thought of that. As I said I know nothing about waxing etc and have never been to a salon. Presumably I would have to be in the room - but if it's a definite no until he's 18 then fine, I can tell him that.

Absolutely not made up - just way outside anything I know about, and he did ask. Apologies for asking for advice, that doesn't mean I made it up - and why on earth would I?

Thanks for those of you with helpful suggestions. I'm not sure how to get this chat taken down but clearly I need to, I will ask MN.

You have to be 18 for intimate waxing. Even considering sending a child to have their arse waxed by an adult is weird...

Newsenmum · 16/11/2023 22:42

Some of the replies are a bit ridiculous. You wouldn’t report it if a teenage girl was asking about this.

Bluelightbaby · 16/11/2023 22:46

Some of these replies are way OTT. The kid is 16 and whilst still a minor is obviously upset about his body hair.
id suggest getting a home laser gun (Phillips lumnea is the one I’ve got) over time the hair will decrease and although he’ll need to get into weird angles he should be able to do it himself

ClaraMumsnet · 16/11/2023 22:46

Hello all, although we can never vouch for anyone, the OP has been with us for years and never given us cause for concern.

cathyandclaire · 16/11/2023 22:46

Lots of girls worry about this, so there's no reason why you're son shouldn't stress about it too. Lots of young people are anxious about body hair - I was an agony aunt for 20 years and it was one of the most common concerns,

There maybe a local waxer that will do non intimate waxing, or you could suggest depilatory cream, or shaving ( there are some very efficient shavers/ trimmers)

Agree. If it was her DD wanting her bikini line done, no one would bat an eye !

spookehtooth · 16/11/2023 22:48

Reporting? It seems a bit much for a good faith discussion about a normal thing in the correct context even if the people who think a waxing person probably wouldn't due to age.

There's a bias towards women in terms of services available where I live, but quite a few do a limited range of male waxing and a couple specialise in waxing men. What services even the specialised places offer varies too. I regularly get my nose and ears waxed, and have had a go at all the non-intimate areas. I'm not thrilled about those being done, not due to pain but personal comfort, although I've considered my crack being waxed for an easier time cleaning loose stools

Ethels · 16/11/2023 22:48

I started having intimate waxes at 16 and nobody batted an eyelid. Just Google “male waxing” + your nearest town then call to ask if they have male waxers. I’ve never come across a male waxer to be honest so that’ll be the stumbling block, not age.

Queucumber · 16/11/2023 22:49

He needs men’s Veet and a mirror.

CaramacFiend · 16/11/2023 22:52

Tell him that if he identifies as a woman he can go to a female beauty parlour.
