To expect my tutor to keep to the schedule?

I am paying a tutor £50 for a face to face maths GCSE lessons with my daughter. We agreed on a set time, each week, based on her schedule, but she is constantly asking for the time to be changed to suit her family commitments.

She gives me notice when she wants to change the time but I feel put out, having to constantly adjust my family’s schedule to suit her’s.

Am I being unreasonable? I am paying her a fair whack and I would expect her to honour the agreed schedule. My daughter has started to moan about having to rearrange her schedule as well.

I agree with you. I'm a music teacher, and I only ask people to rearrange lessons very rarely - maybe once per term at the most. It means that I have to turn down invitations, let my husband do some school events etc., but I just think it's unprofessional to be rearranging constantly - obviously actual emergencies would be different. I also expect a commitment from my students, so it seems fair that I am also committed. The exception for me is one pupil who wanted a time slot that I couldn't commit to, so our agreement is that there is flexibility there.

It depends really, do you want/need flexibility?

various tutors & music teachers over the years & all the usual stuff with kids-dentists/orthodontists, indie schooling etc & we have appreciated the ones who are flexible & we have been very flexible too.

However, if this doesn't work for you, just tell the tutor & say that you need the time to be fixed & if that doesn't work for them you'll need to find a different tutor. Be nice about it & it needn't be a big deal. If they agree, then still keep doing it, just give notice.

£50 wow no you are not unreasonable.

My oh and I are tutoring our friends kids for free. I didn't realise it cost so much.

She should definitely keep to schedule but then does it matter as long as you both agree a time?

£50 is a rip off and they should stick to schedule

Sack the idiot.

No, not acceptable but extremely common for face to face tutors unfortunately. We switched to a very well known online company for our daughter as it's so much more convenient for all parties involved 🤣
