Psychiatric Rape

Sorry for the grabby title - and CW for rape

Several years ago I was raped by a psychiatrist, it went to court years later which is a completely weird story involving his ex wife finding me in another city. He was given a huge sentence due to various factors and I had to go through all the professional body investigations as well. It was shit and traumatic. Basically he will never be a free man again due to the level of violence and sadism he used.

I ended up in NHS mental health services which were incredibly damaging for so many reasons - there’s a complaint again some professional body investigations ongoing.

So I’ve just found out that two staff involved in my care have labelled me a pathological liar over the psychiatrist rape - I’m absolutely fucking furious as at no time did they ever raise that with me, had they done I could have shown them all the stuff from courts etc.

There’s a recording of this and lots of laughing etc on it whilst they are having their conversation.

WTAF do I do now? Bearing in mind I hate this service I don’t want to send them all the details but I also want to tell them how very wrong they are.

Obviously I’m not the biggest fan of MH professionals but do want to clear my name on this.

Also it was all over the news and I don’t want their patients looking it up.

Take your complaint to their professional body.

nocoolnamesleft · 14/11/2023 21:58

What the actual fuck? The burden of proof to have got a criminal conviction is massive. He was found guilt beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law. How dare they? You have already been amazingly strong. Do you have the strength to go to their professional body?

mynameiscalypso · 14/11/2023 22:02

Not the same situation at all but I sued my former psychiatrist after I was provided with WhatsApp messages where she told another professional involved in my treatment that I'd been lying about being raped. We settled out of court but I got a substantial payment. I did wonder about a professional complaint but my lawyer said suing would be easier and less stressful - which was right.

Guesswho88 · 14/11/2023 22:12

Professional body investigations years later?

RecoveringBorderline · 14/11/2023 22:23

Why do mental health professionals do this ? I was effectively gaslighted by a community psychiatric nurse who was convinced I was lying about my abusive (including sexual abuse) childhood. And in this case the abuser wasn't even one of their own (as in MH professional). I hear this from so many women especially those who have diagnoses of or symptoms of what they call BPD/EUPD. It's just wrong wrong wrong.

@Rootastic I'm so sorry you have had to endure this disbelief it's basically suffering abuse all over again. I hope there is a way you can somehow communicate the truth to them.

Is there a way you could report them?

Rootastic · 15/11/2023 01:47

Professional body investigations take years - sadly, even after a criminal conviction. However perhaps that is best.

How does one go about sueinb someone in the UK and would that not just be paid for by their insurance?

I don’t want them to suffer but I do want them to.aknowwldge how wrong they are. I do also need money for therapy because my NHS experience has been awful.

Slightly worried about having the recording and the person who gave it to me.

Gosh so sorry you are going through this.

How did you get the recording? Why are you worried about having it?

Tilllly · 15/11/2023 02:00

I'm so sorry for everything you've been through

Might it be worth speaking to a solicitor to get advice on what action to take and how?

SomersetDreams · 15/11/2023 05:13

Find a local solicitor and get a free consult to discuss suing them. Its worth finding ut your position as you feel strongly and have been through a lot for sure yu willl find strength to pursue this and clear your name.

Maybe Personal Injury route. Make sure you get no win no fee

MidnightOnceMore · 15/11/2023 05:19

Speak to a solicitor.

Good luck Flowers

First ring PALS and follow the formal complaints procedure for the setting. You maybe able to find policies and procedures related to staff behaviour online. There are also lawful regulations and national care qualities that must be followed. You could notify the inspecting body CQC. You could also seek out the advice of a disability specialist solicitor who will have knowledge of the legal framework around the services provided.

tensmum1964 · 15/11/2023 06:09

I agree about contacting PALS to start the processs of putting in a complaint. The fact that you have a recording puts you in a very strong position in terms of being taken seriously. I can understand if you are worried about exposing the person who made the recording, however, when they did this and passed it to youbthey must have known that it wasn't something you could ignore.

Rootastic · 15/11/2023 07:50

I’m already doing a formal complaint (it’s been over a year and no response which is probably why these comments are being made).

I really wish people could just act professionally as would save a lot of time hassle and stress for everyone.

I raised a complaint about a MH nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council a couple of weeks ago. You can do it through their website. They've been great & they have emotional support services you can use while you're in the process too. They were also really quick to act. My complaint was around inappropriate public sharing of information. I submitted the concern on a Saturday & the information was gone by the following Tuesday.

I'm so sorry you're in this position.

Rootastic · 15/11/2023 08:09

@nomoreshit thanks for that, that’s interesting. Neither staff are nurses though (I don’t think, one maybe which I will check).

There is a high rate of sociopathy and psychopathy in the profession, it is terrifying.

Lastchancechica · 15/11/2023 08:27

You know the truth - so do the courts.

I would take legal advice. They need to be struck off, so I would continue with the complaints procedure, and look at other ways to start an investigation into their conduct. It is completely unacceptable.

You are an amazing and incredibly strong woman op 💪🏻 you have without a doubt spared many women and girls the same fate.

mumda · 15/11/2023 08:50

Take the recording to a solicitor to have transcribed and kept safe.
