Hunter boots

Hello everyone!
As I am still quite new to UK (Scotland, small villages around Stirling to be exact), I am questioning myself if there are any "rules" concerning Hunter's tall boots. I find them amazingly comfortable but I don't know if I can wear them only when it's really raining (ok, it rains here almost 24/7). But as soon as it stops raining it's still quite muddy and all my other shoes get dirty in 5 minutes.
So the question is.. AIBU wearing that not only when it rains? Is there any etiquette about that? 😁

Absolutely wear them anytime you want.
Probably not when you go to a dentist appointment etc.
Although I would say Hunters are not a good brand anymore in terms of quality or even comfort.
There are other brands that would last a long time and offer real comfort whilst looking reasonably decent (good fit around the top looks slightly better than the traditional wellington boots for example)
Get yourself to a proper independent hunting shop and have a look around at different brands and have an open mind about looking to spend £200+.
Look for good lining as well so that you keep warm during the cold weather but not overheat in the summer.

I have Le chameau ones. I wear them constantly 😂

I bought mines 2,5 years ago actually and I am super happy with them.
Yes, I would never wear boots like that to my dentist appointment or anything like going out. But most of the time I am out with my dog in the fields or in the hills.

Le Chameau boots all the way. I lived in mine in Cornish winters.

Wear them whenever you want.

But I agree with the above poster - Hunter wellies are not what they used to be quality wise. At all. Le Chameau, Aigle and Muckboots are better.

Lorrymum · 14/11/2023 13:46

Totally agree about the quality now. I lusted after pair of lilac Hunters for ages but they started to leak after a few months of occasional wear. Very disappointed.

Branster · 14/11/2023 13:47

You were lucky OP they are lasting so well! Keep wearing them, maybe you were lucky and got a solid pair.
That is exactly why I practically live in my boots : out and about with the dogs, pop in to the supermarket on way back or stop for a coffee with a dog walking friend, nip to the petrol station etc etc. I even wear them when I don't have the dogs in certain instances because they are easy to put on and take off and we are quite rural so mud or wet grass everywhere.

TheSingingBean · 14/11/2023 13:47

I love my Aigle boots and wear them a lot in winter, regardless of rain and mud.

Agree that they are far superior to Hunter's, having had both. I got my Aigle's in 2017 and they're still going strong.

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 14/11/2023 13:47

Hunters are absolutely shit now. A million years ago when I was just a young 'un, they used to cost about £30 and lasted for years, (I had ponies, so I was tough on boots!). Now they cost £100(?) and split at the ankles after a couple of months. Don't waste your money.

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 14/11/2023 13:50

There's no etiquette about wellies as far as I'm aware, but Hunters are overpriced crap and I've found that they reliably break faster than wellies that cost a fraction of what they do. Dunlop are good.

IDoughnutKnow · 14/11/2023 13:54

I know you're not asking about this, OP, but Hunters are useless now. They've also become a bit ... Burberry.

Le Chameau or good old Dunlop are better.

I understand that, but as I already have them for 2,5 years and 100% satisfied with the comfort and quality it would be quite stupid of me to throw them away now, they look like new.
For the next purchase I will think about choosing another brand, yes 😊

Just don't drive in them, otherwise fill your boots!
